Position Description
The Emergency Telecommunications Manager is responsible for performing managerial, administrative, and supervisory duties involved in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Department of Emergency Communications Center. This position may require shift work and performs related duties as required.
Typical Duties
- Performs various supervisory duties.
- Assigns and reviews work.
- Approves leave requests.
- Counsels with and corrects employees as needed.
- Evaluates employee performance.
- Trains and/or establishes training requirements for employees.
- Performs various administrative and managerial duties.
- Plans, organizes, and evaluates activities at the Communications Center.
- Plans and recommends improvements in operating procedures.
- Develops and assists with the implementation of policies, goals, and objectives for division.
- Evaluates staff procedures on a continuous basis and recommends improvements where necessary.
- Compiles and analyzes various statistical data.
- Assists with budget preparation process for the division.
- Oversees administration of division budget.
- Writes or directs preparation of reports.
- Prepares and transmits communications, instructions, and policies to subordinates.
- Determines staff and equipment needs.
- Attends meetings, training sessions and re-certification programs as required.
- Interprets rules, policies, and procedures for staff members.
- Assists in developing and providing basic and in-service training for Communications Personnel.
- Conducts tours of Emergency Communication Center as required.
- Recommends staff improvements where necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years management/supervisory experience in an emergency communications center.

High School Diploma and five (5) years experience including two (2) years management/supervisory experience as a supervisor in an emergency communications center.

National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Query Certification
Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Basic Telecommunicator Certification
Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) Certification
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) Certification
