Role Purpose

Serves as strategic, consultative thought partner to organizational leaders and team members, providing employee relations expertise and support. Consults and guides both leaders and team members on the interpretation of policies and procedures. Provides coaching and consultation to leaders, including senior leadership on complex employee relations concerns including investigations, performance management, BJC’s values, policy violations and external complaints. Serves as a skilled employee relations professional, directly investigating concerns of misconduct, harassment, discrimination and other specific categories of concerns as indicated by BJC’s policies while operating with the utmost confidentiality, respect and discretion. Using data and expert analysis, partners with appropriate HR Business Partner to ensure awareness of department trends or concerns. Serves as subject matter expert for organizational policies pertaining to team members, associated regulations and laws, and champions BJC’s organizational values.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advice, counsel and resolution to hospital employees including leaders across the enterprise on complex and moderate employee matters including policy interpretation and application, conflict resolution, performance management, progressive discipline and to provide effective employee relations guidance and manage a consistent message to reduce risk to the organization and support a positive culture while working to increase efficiencies and lower the cost of service delivery.
  • Lead formal investigation and review regarding claims of harassment, discrimination, and workplace concerns including legal/employee relations, regulatory compliance, federal, state, and local laws, and the employee separation process to provide recommendations to mitigate risk.
  • Monitors and analyzes various complex employee relations issues, metrics, and reports and provides positive proactive consultation to address potential employee relations risk.
  • Utilizes strong interpersonal skills and abilities to effectively interact with employees and leaders at all organizational levels to provide strong customer service and support. Partner with the HR Business Partner and leaders to ensure optimal decisions and outcomes made through influencing, coaching to balance risk and operational needs.
  • Serves as an escalation point within Employee Relations team to resolve matters timely and effectively while utilizing standard work processes and continuing to develop expertise within field. Provides support to project-based work as assigned.
