Employment Law Staff Attorney Denver

The Employment Law Staff Attorney is the touchpoint for our members regarding federal and state employment law. We serve members in different states in various industries. Employment Law Staff Attorneys advise on multiple issues for risk assessment, hearing representation and agreements.

Location: This position is hybrid; Remote work and periodically, in-office as needed in Denver, Colorado

Type: Full-time / exempt ( not a contract/billable requirements position)

Reports to: Managing Attorney, Legal Consulting & Administrative Representation

Essential Functions

  • Advise and counsel employers regarding multiple and complex legal issues, recognizing and addressing potential risks with situations including performance documentation, discipline, termination, layoffs, employment agreements, waiver and release agreements, non-compete agreements, confidentiality agreements, etc.
  • Ability to manage legal and business priorities and help build consensus among multiple stakeholders (e.g., Human Resources professionals and management teams).
  • Evaluate and analyze Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) claims and draft position, arbitration and mediation statements.
  • Represent employers in administrative hearing process including unemployment hearings and wage claims.
  • Prepare and deliver live and virtual training to organizations in various practice areas including harassment, equal employment opportunity law, termination, wage and hour, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), disability law, performance documentation, etc.
  • Review employee handbooks, manuals, policies and procedures from a legal perspective.
  • Advise organizations concerning employee relations matters, risk management, policies, procedures and other employment law and Human Resources (HR) issues.
  • Substantial interaction with employers and member companies.
  • Assist with training, mentoring and development of attorneys within the organization.

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate and Colorado Bar Admission is required. Multistate licensure (or the willingness to seek admission), is a plus.
  • 3+ years of Employment Law experience is preferred.
  • Must be within Denver Metro or Front Range Area and within a reasonable distance of Denver, Colorado.

Core Competencies

  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to work independently and execute plans to meet employers’ needs, the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), drug and alcohol, workers compensation and other employment law practice areas.
  • Demonstrate independence, competence, and confidence when advising management and business leaders on complex employment law matters.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Advanced legal writing and document creation.
  • Proficiency with word-processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
