Nature of work:
The primary function of an Employment & Training Worker Supervisor is to plan, organize and supervise the work of a unit of employees engaged in the administration of multiple employment service programs.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate for this position will have the necessary skills to supervise, lead, train and direct staff; have a strong emphasis on continuous quality improvement; strong work ethic and ability to prioritize assigned work tasks and follow through in a timely manner; excellent listening and strong written and verbal communication skills; exceptional customer service skills and initiative; solution based problem solving skills; experience in maintaining cooperative relations and communications with customers, management, and staff; be able to effectively work with community partners, and be knowledgeable of community resources; ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism; proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as basic knowledge of software and database programs.

Examples of Duties

  • Selecting, training, directing, evaluating and addressing performance and personnel problems.
  • Meeting regularly with staff to offer support and guidance.
  • Providing for the ongoing training and development of staff.
  • Providing consultation to staff on cases to develop effective case plans.
  • Analyzing and evaluating issues and proposals, developing recommendations and overseeing the implementation of solutions.
  • Using an automated system for caseload monitoring activities.
  • Representing the department at meetings, conferences, or community meetings and providing information and reports and participating in planning and outreach.
  • Leading policy and program development workgroups.
  • Assisting in evaluation of procedures and recommending methods for improvement of operations.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, policies and procedures that govern program operations.
  • Receiving complaints from the community and resolving or recommending disposition of them.

Education, Experience & Licenses
Pattern 1: Two (2) years of full-time experience as an Eligibility Supervisor or Social Worker Supervisor I;
OR

Pattern 2: One (1) year of full-time experience as an Employment & Training Worker III AND successful completion of 15 semester (22.5 quarter) college units in career planning, vocational guidance principles, personality development, occupational testing and measurement, or counseling preparation;

OR

Pattern 3: Eighteen (18) months of fulltime experience as an Employment & Training Worker III;

OR

Pattern 4: Thirty (30) months of full-time experience as an Employment & Training Worker II AND successful completion of 15 semester (22.5 quarter) college units in career planning, vocational guidance principles, personality development, occupational testing and measurement, or counseling preparation;

OR

Pattern 5: Three years of full-time experience as an Employment & Training Worker II.

OR

Three years of full-time professional casework experience performing publicly funded vocational guidance services, employment counseling or placement services, including one year of lead or supervisory experience or training in a social services program AND completion of 15 semester (22.5 quarter) college units in career planning, vocational guidance principles, personality development, occupational testing and measurement, or counseling preparation.

In addition to the education and experience requirements specified in the Merit Systems/Cooperative Personnel Services classification specification, Tehama County requires:

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

License & Special Requirements:

  • Requires a valid California driver’s license.
