Department Profile

The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm’s books and records, and by contributing to firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley’s various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community.

Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley’s various businesses and its senior management team. Our employees support numerous activities such as Product Controllership, Profit & Loss (P&L) analysis, Regulatory Reporting, Digitization, Business Management, Capital Requirements and Sourcing / Vendor Management.

Our Finance teams are currently seeking to engage with New York’s leading junior talent. Our opportunities span across the global Finance organization, including: Institutional Securities Group, Global Corporate Controllers, Reengineering & Expense Management, Treasury and Investment Management Finance teams. You Will

  • Gain experience with and exposure to financial products, financial statements, regulatory reporting
  • Communicate and work alongside a diverse group of professional in Finance and across the Firm

  • Understand the risk-based capital rules, minimum capital standards as required by the FRB
  • Run end-to-end processes for capital end user computing tools for daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly processes
  • Identify the root cause issue in process and propose solutions
  • Work across systems such as Microsoft Access, Python and R-Script
  • Run various initiatives across the end-user-computing team
  • Work across products (i.e., Derivatives, Securities Financings Transactions, Loans, etc.) by engaging with product owners to determine optimization solutions for calculating capital and forecasting
  • Partner with business and technology counterparts in outlining and implementing optimization solutions
  • Gain an understanding of the connectivity between products, balance sheet, systems, processes, regulatory Capital, and analysis
  • Assist in managing remediation efforts for various capital calculation

Qualifications:

You Have

  • 3-5 years of work experience
  • Diversity of thought and background
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Collaboration and relationship building skills
  • Motivation to be accountable and deliver positive results
  • An ability to analyze information and present it back within an agreed timeline
  • A sense of organization and time management skills

Optional

  • An interest or familiarity with Financial Markets and Products
  • Previous work experience of Audit or Accounting

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $70,000 and $105,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
