Energy Storage Sr. Project Finance Associate

Blue Sky Utility is a unique renewable energy project developer. We are looking for a Solar Energy Analyst.

The solar energy analyst will be responsible for site evaluation, financial modeling, due diligence, and market research for solar and/or storage project development, portfolio acquisitions, and JV structuring with 3rd party developers in the US and Puerto Rico.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and manage bankable financial models analyzing the economics of solar (and solar plus storage) projects, portfolio acquisitions at NTP, and tax-equity or debt transactions.
  • Develop and maintain data rooms for use in financing transactions. Compile, prepare and/or document all pre-NTP documentation.
  • Diligence and identify incentives and/or rate tariff data and market data relevant to modeling financial returns available from BESS and/or solar projects nationwide.
  • Run RFPs for various third-party services and/or for solar components.
  • Draft investment memos detailing market analysis and returns sensitivities for potential project and portfolio acquisitions. Communicate results and recommendations to the management team.
  • Review and prepare term sheets for acquiring projects and portfolios.
  • Support third party capital raises, including debt, tax equity, refinancing’s and project equity structures that allow the company to efficiently finance projects and optimize returns.
  • Collaborate across internal teams including Development & Construction, Engineering, and Asset Management to develop underwriting assumptions.
  • Manage due diligence including third-party diligence activities performed by outside legal, appraisal, econometric forecasting, regulatory and other consultant activities.
  • Review purchase agreements, operating agreements, financing agreements, host site and offtake agreements. Lead and/or support contract negotiations.
  • Support the Origination team to grow the development pipeline. Determine competitive bid pricing based on modeled sensitivity analysis, potential capital structures and market dynamics.

  • Compile, prepare, and/or document all pre-NTP documentation.
  • Experience with modeling energy islanding opportunities and microgrids is helpful, but not required.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience developing and building complex financial models using Microsoft Excel including GAAP, tax, and partnership accounting
  • Minimum of 3-4 Years’ experience working in the US solar market at a development firm, investment bank, financial investment firm, or related entity.
  • Experience working in the east coast community solar market would be a plus
  • Possess a creative thought process with the ability to analyze new markets, opportunities, or financial structures to enhance value. Critical thinking. Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Proven track record of working well within a team environment, and taking ownership of processes and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills. Attention to detail and the ability to set and meet realistic deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong English language writing skills.
  • Proficient on MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, etc.
  • CFA a plus.

A reasonable estimate of the current annual salary range is $130,000-$180,000.
