POSITION TITLE: Energy Technician 1 – Baseload Auditor
LOCATION: Greenfield/Remote from Work based on program service needs
STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Energy Conservation Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
To conduct baseload energy audits for low-income eligible clients both in single family and multi-family buildings and various other projects encompassing energy technical support throughout Franklin and Hampshire Counties (occasionally Hampden and Berkshire counties).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate energy audit jobs including scheduling audit, initial visit, data collection, assessment, and follow up on assigned jobs.
- Project oversight including scheduling and completing funding source inspections, ensuring proper billing and documentation.
- Perform residential utility funded electrical usage and planning audits, including interviewing clients and accurately assessing energy usage.
- Perform minor energy conservation installations (bulbs, domestic hot water measures, etc.) and inform client about other conservation programs: weatherization, Heating Repair, Fuel Assistance.
- Maintain audit, work, and billing records.
- Provide energy efficiency education to clients.
- Help maintain inventory supply of energy conservation equipment.
- Maintain production as defined by funding contracts and regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of knowledge of funding source rules and guidelines for expenditure of energy efficiency and weatherization funds.
- Maintain knowledge of energy efficiency current protocols and information.
- Required to travel regularly throughout the program and agency service area, to all Community Action sites and service locations, and occasionally out of the service area.
- Remote work from home will be assigned and determined by the Energy Conservation Manager; when schedule requires remote work, expected to be available for meetings, calls, responding to emails, and conducting regular duties during standard service/agency hours.
- Comply with agency and funders’ paperwork requirements and procedures
- Attend regularly scheduled supervision meetings, team meetings, and mandatory agency trainings; participate in professional development activities, and other relevant trainings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Energy Director or Client Services Coordinator.

Requirements
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- HS Diploma or High School Equivalency.
- Four years’ experience in related field.
- Experience working directly with clients
- Energy efficiency or renewal energy certificate preferred.
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience or Additional directly related experience may be substituted for education
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Basic knowledge energy efficiency, building construction, electrical systems and household lighting preferred.
- Knowledge of building codes (local, state and federal), building design, building diagnostics, and building instruction including inherent problems associated with older and multi-family homes.
- Knowledge of funding source rules and guidelines for expenditure of energy efficiency and weatherization funds.
- Knowledge of solar gains and losses in a heating system design and testing, VOCs and how to mitigate mold/mildew etc.
- Proficient computer skills: using a mouse, email, Microsoft office applications and data entry
- Excellent verbal (in-person and phone) and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills relating to clients.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to think creatively when deciding the best educational approach for each client.
- Ability to work independently

- This position requires frequent sitting, standing, travelling, walking, talking and or listening and driving. The position also requires frequent climbing of stairs and/or ladders, crawling, squatting or kneeling and bending. This position also requires frequent lifting and/or carrying of 40 lbs.
- The position occasionally requires, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The position also requires occasional lifting and or moving of up to 50 lbs. and even 100 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities requires by this job include vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- The work environment is an indoor office environment and client homes, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather when traveling to and at job sites.
- The noise level in the office is usually quiet; the noise level in the client homes may vary.
- There is occasional outdoor work that has some exposure to hazards and extreme temperatures.
- Some bending and stretching required.
- Manual dexterity required for use of calculator, computer keyboard, and the installation of conservation materials such as CFL and LED light bulbs and water saving devices.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of Criminal Offender Record check (C.O.R.I.) prior to hire and every three years. Successful completion of a background record check for NGRID contract through Accurate Background. Evidence of a good driving record and ability to be covered under Community Action’s non-owned and hired vehicle policy.
