Energy Unit Management Accountant

Job Description

Open to location as the position crosses all Unit geography.

Responsible for supporting the Unit General Manager (UGM) to achieve the financial objectives of the unit and for supporting the Regional Management Accountant in managing Region/Group financial performance.
Responsibility for the production and interpretation of financial operations and to drive performance partnering with the Unit teams to ensure KPI’s are being met or exceeded. Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Preparation and coordination of the annual budgets and forecasts at the division level, along with Division Management, then consolidation for Unit reporting
  • Involvement with Business planning within the unit
  • Investigation and reporting of significant income and cost variances
  • Review and analysis of overheads to ensure cost control, identify trends and daylight potential issues across the unit
  • Monthly compilation of P&L performance, KPI’s, operational issues, project losses and other improvements needed thru reporting mechanism to Regional and Group Management
  • Supervision, coordination, and management of divisional accountants with active role in appointments, training, performance reviews and taking corrective actions
  • Regular meetings with Divisional Managers to assist in the monthly project controls meetings, project metrics, staffing and other KPIs, making appropriate recommendations to drive results
  • Assistance in the evaluation and preparation of business plans including 5 year rolling forecasts
  • Where requested, assist in the preparation of major proposals to ensure Group required ROI metrics are being achieved and make recommendations on billing profile
  • Analysis of project profit profitability including costs to complete
  • Where requested, attend commercial review meetings to evaluate financial aspects of contracts in order to facilitate accurate invoicing and ROCE
  • Support the UGM and Unit Commercial Manager to obtain better visibility of material projects were commercial issues or project manager issues are depressing performance and provide appropriate recommendations
  • Management of working capital to ensure there is a proper understanding and action of WIP billed and debts collected to drive cash positive performance
  • Training of project managers when needed to enable them to understand and interpret project financials to help avoid project losses
  • Coordination of accurate cash flow submissions to Group to support hedging activity for Group Treasury
  • Assist with financial evaluation and due diligence of potential acquisition targets, strategic initiatives and complex trading arrangements
  • Support annual audit process with Regional Management as requested
  • Provide information and support for Group Board Meetings including presentation information
  • Regular team meetings with billing/cash collections/project controls staff to ensure best practice rolled out and consistency across divisions
  • Explore opportunities for automation and use of digital tools for improved efficiency
  • Effective communication, detailed oriented, time management and able to problem solve
  • Candidate must be a team player; flexible and willing to travel

Candidate Specification

We welcome applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • BS or BA Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • CPA, CMA, FCCA license or equivalent desired
  • 7 or more years of corporate accounting experience, specifically with project accounting
  • Experience within the industry preferred
  • Management experience, supervising and coordination of responsibilities
  • Effective communicator with good presentation skills and leadership qualities
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel (Advanced Level))

Salary Range: $100- 190K (Based on experience)
