Description
Position Overview
Shelter House is a community of residents, staff and volunteers working together to provide basic human services for the men and women of the Greater Cincinnati area who are experiencing homelessness. The Engagement Specialist is responsible for building a trusting relationship with clients of the night-by-night shelters.
Essential Job Duties
- Effectively transfer clients from intake to case management
- Assist clients in addressing barriers that could prevent them from engaging in services or obtaining housing
- Assist case managers with housing plans for the residents, and in some cases will need to act like a case manager if needed
- Keep record of all client interactions in VESTA system
- Spend 60% of time on the shelters day area and 40% of shift documenting services rendered
- Assist with shelter intakes when needed
- Complete Vispadts with clients in HMIS
- Collect documentation for chronic homelessness
- Work closely with PATH and Recovery Teams to make referrals
- Meet with program supervisor biweekly to discuss productivity, outcomes, and to make recommendations for step-up/case management
- Provide weekly groups for clients during shelter deep clean
- Complete step-up orientation with clients and assist with scheduling and warm handoff with case manager
- Assist clients in accessing community resources
- Assist clients in housing and employment search
- Make referrals and assist clients with the 1X assistance program.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology, Human Health, Sociology or other related fields; 2 years of experience in field of mental health or substance abuse can be substituted for education.
- CPR certified
- Ability to administer NARCAN
- Since the Engagement Specialist have the ability to drive clients in their personal vehicle on occasion, they need to have the following: Valid driver’s license with good driving record, daily access to private insured vehicle during work hours and the ability to be approved by Shelter House insurer.
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the shelter.
