Job Summary

Responsible for working with the Region of Western New York, Service Centers, and other company personnel for the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the Distribution System.
Learn Cyme Software of electrical distribution system for load studies to properly serve new customer loads. This includes a focus on Solar PV Interconnections for Distributed Generation. Also includes Electric Vehicle EV connections in order to keep ahead of the curve of the changing landscape for transportation. Learn and implement improvements when circuit upgrades are required. Ensures safe and efficient operation of the distribution system by protective devices; Resolves technical power quality issues affecting the system. Applies and interprets company, industry, local, state, national codes, tariffs, and standards. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Assists during storm restoration, as needed. Minimal travel required for meetings or training or storm restoration.

Responsibilities

1. Performs engineering analyses of the electric distribution system to serve new customer load, PV Farms, EV Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. Be forward thinking on the Greening of the Electric Grid. This includes solutions for contingency plans and reliability studies and capacity studies. (50% P)
2. Calculates/reviews protection coordination settings of distribution relays and reclosers to improve power system reliability. Performs/reviews fuse coordination studies to improve circuit reliability.
3. Studies power quality and voltage flicker problems and suggests solutions. Analyzes the impact of customer-interconnected distributed generation. Perform Engineering calculations.
4. Work closely with operations to improve Grid and impact SAIFI / CAIDI reliability
5. Expedite the implementation of AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) to automate the modeling of our Grid for real-time, on-demand interrogations
6. Assists during storm restoration.

Skills and Requirements

Required Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with 2+years of experience.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Problem-solver, result-oriented, and innovative.

Preferred Skills & Abilities:
• Experience in power system analysis, planning, or protection coordination.
• Work Experience in the utility industry
• Knowledge of load flow software tools (CYME).
• Knowledge of relays/reclosers (ASPEN ONELINER) and use their software tools (QUICKSET).
• Able to perform distribution system analysis including loading/voltage studies and calculation of voltage regulator and capacitor settings to provide economical solutions.
• Able to perform fault/short-circuit analysis and motor starting studies.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
• Project management skills.
