The Engineering Advisor is a critical role responsible for supporting development and installation of renewable energy systems, including solar PV and energy storage/microgrid systems, for public sector customers. You will be working in a fast-paced, team-based environment, at the direction of the growth strategy & applications focused on new areas of growth and fostering existing one. The Engineering Advisor is responsible for the design and engineering of solar PV and energy storage projects, perform site audits and assessments, specifying and sizing equipment, and completing savings calculations to support projects in development and construction. It can be part of a broader project that includes a combination of energy efficiency measures and renewable generation installations, to help different types of customers become more sustainable, save money, and improve services to their end users. It is expected the Engineering Advisor will support several projects that can range from early development through post construction. The engineering advisor will be working in a team-based environment, at the direction of the Project Manager as well as their supervisor.
This position can sit in San Jose, Sacramento, or Oakland and will report to the Director of Project Management. This position is open to a hybrid scheduled of both in-office and work-from-home days.
What you’ll do:
- Perform solar PV and energy storage system/microgrid site surveys and understand metering and measurement tools and data
- Evaluate various types and locations of solar PV arrays and energy storage systems
- Analyze utility data to verify existing customer loads, consider rate change options and calculate energy cost savings
- Calculate potential solar generation quantities of various scenarios using the PVSyst modeling tool
- Calculate potential savings using EnergyToolBase
- Prepare scopes and specifications for subcontractor Request for Proposals
- Prepare utility and other incentive program applications, permit packages and customer submittals
- Assist the Project and Construction Managers on job walks, bid evaluations, contractor negotiations, and during construction meetings
- Assist during the construction phase of the project by reviewing submittals, change orders, and RFI’s, and make recommendations to the Project Manager
- Other tasks as assigned by manager
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering related field
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in relatable field
- Experience with HVAC and lighting design and engineering
- Professional Engineering License, ME or EE
- Working knowledge of utility rate schedules
- Solid working knowledge of solar photovoltaic systems and energy storage systems/microgrids, including the ability to identify different systems and equipment, identify potential energy savings measures, and quantify the potential energy savings and costs
- Understand metering and measurement tools and the data provided
- Competent in computer modeling software programs, such as EQuest or Trane Trace, EnergyToolBase, PVSYST
- Proficient at performing load take-offs from drawings
- Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills in report writing and correspondence
- Proficient at computer modeling/simulation of building operation
- Excellent communication skills with employees and customers
Additional Information/Conditions:
- Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
- Must be available to travel up to 40% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
- Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
- Could involve some lifting
- Ability to climb ladders, traverse open terrain, walk, bend, stoop etc

- Salary Range: $92,395-$236,600 USD, annually
- Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
- In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
