Department Overview
The Electric Operations team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.
The Substation Engineering & Design team is responsible for project engineering and design work for PG&E substations. The team is responsible for the following:
- Transmission Substation engineering and design
- Distribution Substation engineering and design
- Technical assistance on feasibility studies
- Technical coordination with Transmission Line Engineering and design
- Technical consultation (project options)
- Project scope, detailed estimates, material lists
- Equipment specifications
- Construction support
- Other activities as needed
Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.
This position will be directly responsible for substation engineering activities. Will provide engineering and technical support within a substation engineering group and will also be responsible for managing engineering drawings and files. Under supervision, performs technical work in connection with the design, construction, maintenance, or operation of the Company’s facilities or functions related thereto as an assistant to a group of engineers.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.
Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $36.81 to $52.75, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.
Job Responsibilities
Under supervision, performs technical work in connection with the design, construction, maintenance, or operation of the Company’s plant or functions related thereto as an assistant to an engineer or group of engineers.
Typical assignments include, but not limited to:
- chart making
- preparing graphs, drawings, and sketches
- obtaining and analyzing engineering data
- making and checking mathematical computations
- preparing and reviewing computer input and output
- writing and revising computer programs
- contract work and assisting in administrative work associated with the technical office activities.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Associate’s degree in Engineering or its equivalent in technical education and experience
Desired:
- 3 years of clerical or administrative support experience
- Advanced and demonstrated proficiency with business software products (Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Adobe Acrobat, Clarity, Documentum, etc.)
- Ability to understand written technical standards and to communicate readily with others, both orally and in writing
- Ability to prepare complex forms, reports, records and reference data, including statistical records and computations required for reports and audits
- Strong oral and written communication skills
