The Work You Will Do:

The Engineering Specialist IV performs work for the Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP) under the direction of the Environmental Administrator. The candidate will possess the knowledge and skills to actively monitor, and support assigned contracted local programs where a higher level of review is needed. They will also possess knowledge in the concepts and principals of assessment and remediation of petroleum contaminated sites as well as program procedures.

Pay:

$48,876.45 – $55,000.00 (Commensurate with experience)

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly technical environmental engineering position performing contamination assessment and remediation, and evaluation of costs associated therewith. In addition, the position requires knowledge of remediation techniques for petroleum cleanup and familiarity with Chapter 62-780, F.A.C. . Travel to contaminated sites may be necessary. The duties of the position are as follows:

  • Serves as PRP liaison with Local Program contract offices, where a higher level of review is needed, by providing ongoing guidance, clarification, updates, and training regarding PRP. Reviews Local Program work products for technical adequacy and conformance with Chapter 62-780, F.A.C. and applicable Department guidance and procedures. Responsible for actively monitoring and supporting assigned contracted Local Programs.
  • Assists the Section’s Professional Engineer in the technical oversight and approval of all Source Removal, Remedial Action Plan, and Remedial Action work orders and decisions concerning petroleum rehabilitation projects. Attends related training sessions and disseminating information to other staff.
  • Evaluates on-going remedial systems, and operation and maintenance costs of remedial systems for effectiveness and proposes modifications as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development of program design criteria, procedures, and standards for various remediation designs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of contamination assessment methods.
  • Knowledge of remedial design concepts and processes.
  • Knowledge of water treatment processes.
  • Skill in using personal computers for word processing and/or data analysis.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical issues both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of professionals.
  • Ability to plan and organize a complex workload.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific and technical data.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Travel is required.
  • Valid Class E Driver License.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering.
