Why does the job exist?
To ensure accountability of and provide support to English Learner programs within the Language and Culture Division. The Language and Culture Division is committed to supporting districts and charter schools with how to identify, serve, and exit English learners and implement language programs which provide culturally and linguistically responsive, rigorous instructional programming.

How does it get done?
Collaborate with the Language and Culture Division Deputy Director , Director, and other Division staff which includes but is not limited to: Providing timely and relevant customer service, technical assistance, and support to districts across the state on language programs; provide instructional leadership, specific and meaningful feedback, and informational resources to districts and schools; assists the Division with data analysis, program evaluation and monitoring via desktop auditing, and on-site visits which requires travel across the state.

Secretary of Education, Deputy Cabinet Secretaries, Language and Culture Division Director, Superintendents, Tribes, District Administrators of language programs, School Administrators, Teachers and Students and their Families.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate has knowledge and/or experience in:
the implementation of English Learner Programs;
language instruction with the English language development standards;
administration of English language screeners and proficiency assessments;
leveraging federal grants and funding; and
project management and strategic planning.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico’s Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
