About the Job

With significant direction and instruction, design and implement technical solutions supporting enterprise insurance business processes/operations. Through an interactive process and combination of learning techniques, apply best practice principles of engineering to the design, development, maintenance, testing and evaluation of the enterprise solutions and systems. Develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of an entry-level enterprise solutions engineer position.

This is an on-site/ in-office position, requiring work out of the Helena, Montana office.

The Enterprise Solutions Engineer Trainee program will last approximately 18 months, depending on trainee skill and progression. After successfully completing the trainee program employee may be eligible for promotional opportunities and continued development.

Required Skills

What You Will Do

  • Within the context of the Enterprise Solutions Engineer Trainee Program, learn existing systems built on MSF technologies and participate in the evaluation of proposed systems and system changes for feasibility and architectural compliance. Perform systems analysis, user support, system and performance testing, and develop/configure program specifications and reusable components for specific business applications. (55%)
  • Learns in both oral and written formats, attends classroom and one on one training, completes assignments to demonstrate workers’ compensation knowledge and understanding, develops proficient competency in MSF specific technologies, takes direction, accepts mentoring and coaching to learn new skills and participates in both waterfall and agile software development lifecycle process to test and improve knowledge and skills. (25%)
  • Develop and demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills through collaborative teamwork with internal and external customers and application of critical thinking skills. (15%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Key Activities (performed with direction, instruction, and oversight)

  • Work collaboratively on enterprise projects spanning onsite and remote business and technical teams.
  • Appropriately handles requests for software and system changes/user requests according to MSF IT and security policies.
  • Complete assigned work within the timeframes required.
  • Demonstrate through the ESE Training Program an increasing ability to successfully improve MSF software applications and resolve technical issues, according to customer specifications.
  • Analyze existing systems, develop artifacts, and establish, implement, and maintain specific systems, while monitoring and supervising systems performance under the guidance of the ESE Trainer and/or Mentor.
  • Analyze requirements for feasibility and users’ needs and design, develop, debug and test using MSF technologies for commercial business applications.
  • Prepare business documentation and conduct user training for specific enterprise programs and user needs, to support business processes, provide specific technical awareness, insight, and documentation as appropriate to departments and users.
  • Perform extensive functional and automated testing of modules post-customization.
  • Ensure that systems continue to function normally through maintenance and testing, execute production failure trouble shooting and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Work with other solution design engineers, architects, and other cross functional IT professionals to design tools and enhancements and write code to fulfill enterprise objectives and needs.
  • Liaise with business /stakeholders on project status, proposals, and technical issues.
  • Prepare reports or correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, or status.
  • Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of capabilities and requirements, generate useful and actionable business insights.
  • Continuously seek and accept feedback in support of the MSF IT processes and industry Best Practices.
  • Demonstrate increasing ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Required Experience

What You Will Need (Minimum Qualifications)

Required:

  • Associate or technical degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer/Data Science, or related IT field.

OR

  • Three years of experience at Montana State Fund utilizing MSF required Guidewire technologies.
  • Must be open to and have the ability to learn multiple programming language(s) as necessary along with innovative and creative analytical and critical thinking skills to resolve design issues.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 1+ years of directly related work experience utilizing MSF required Guidewire technologies.
  • Relevant technical and/or insurance certifications.
