Entry-Level Mineral Process Engineer

Job Description

Arcadis is the world’s leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level process engineer with training in mineral processing and/or metallurgical engineering to join a multidisciplinary team of engineers in Highlands Ranch, CO, focused on critical mineral recovery from mine and mill materials.

There is an urgent need for critical minerals to meet the domestic U.S. supply chain needs for advanced technological applications and for the energy transition, and Arcadis is supporting global mining companies with North American operations in this area of need. Arcadis is focusing on solutions to this need through comprehensive characterization efforts and evaluations of critical minerals recovery opportunities.

Role accountabilities:

As part of the Resilience Environment team, this engineer will join a team of geologists, geochemists, process and chemical engineers currently engaged in this work, at operating mines and mills, and at operations in reclamation and closure, and will perform the following:

  • Detailed review of critical mineral occurrence in mine materials and identification of mineral processing options for recovery
  • Evaluation of current mining and milling operations, including existing flow sheets, and planning for modifications to flow sheets for critical mineral recovery
  • Assessment of new innovative technologies for critical mineral and rare earth recovery from aqueous and solid waste streams
  • Evaluation of water treatment processes and treatment residual streams for secondary processing for critical mineral recovery (from nanofiltration, ultrafiltration brines, high density sludge, ion exchange, and other water treatment processes).
  • Tailings reprocessing opportunities
  • Development of concepts to enable conventional water treatment systems to recover valuable metals
  • Cost estimating for mineral processing circuits for critical mineral recovery
  • Participation in projects related to engineered water treatment and remediation systems

Training in mineral processing and metallurgy is required, along with understanding of the application of process modeling software to resource recovery. Knowledge of the principles of particulate mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, electrometallurgy, and pyrometallurgy and economic evaluation of these operations is desired.

The engineer will join other engineers at Arcadis, and in addition to mineral processing evaluations, will participate in projects associated with evaluation and design of water treatment systems for contaminant treatment, and in efforts associated with costing, construction, implementation and operation of these systems. The process engineer will be expected to participate in some travel (10-20% of their overall time) to visit operating and closed mines, and evaluate equipment and processes.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science or Master’s degree in Mineral Processing or Metallurgical Engineering or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree such as a PhD
  • 0-3 Years Experience
  • Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40 HR / 8 HR training
  • Current MSHA Part48B 24-hour surface miner training
  • Previous industry, consulting, or regulatory internship experience
