Pay Range
$122,250 – $151,788 Annually for the A01.4 level
$146,640 – $182,064 Annually for the A01.5 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for anEnvironment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) Directorate Administrator. The ES&H Directorate is committed to supporting the Laboratory in achieving its mission in a safe and environmentally compliant manner. As the ES&H Directorate Administrator, you will lead and oversee administrative and personnel operations. You will serve as a member of the ES&H senior management team and participate in strategic business, workforce, and operational planning activities. This position will report directly to the Operations & Business (O&B) Principal Directorate Administrator.
You will
- Direct and oversee the Directorate’s business administration and personnel management function of over 400 employees to achieve long-range directorate/programmatic goals through interactions with high-level personnel both internally and externally.
- Serve as the primary content contributorin leading, planning, analyzing, developing, and overseeing business, operational and/or organizational systems, processes, and strategies for ES&H.
- Serve as a member of the ES&H senior management teams and using expert knowledge, contribute to and participate in business and workforce restructuring and planning, administrative issues, and strategic planning activities.
- Direct, assess, and oversee the ES&H administrative staff, including oversight of training, performance appraisals, ranking, salary and implementation of office technology systems and procedures.
- Manage and administer the performance management, ranking, and salary activities for the directorate.
- Provides direction and oversight to multi-faceted and significant initiatives and projects.
- Analyze and interpret human resources requirements/guidance and determine course of action to obtain optimal results. Investigate and recommend appropriate courses of action to managers and supervisors on administrative and personnel matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional job responsibilities at the A01.5 level
- Develop administrative, operational, and ES&H specific institutional policies, procedures, methods, and practices in support of Laboratory-wide initiatives; assess administrative needs, develop and implement procedures, methods, and practices to support fast-paced HR activities at the directorate level.
- Assists with communicating the strategic direction for institutional programs and projects, covering multiple disciplines.
- Represent the Principal Directorate on institutional committees and working groups.
- Provide strategic and tactical execution regarding administrative issues and synthesize multi-faceted and complex issues and challenges into short and long-term measurable goals, metrics, and deliverables.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of extensive experience and education in a related business, operational and/or organizational area.
- Broad and significant specialized and operational knowledge of industry practices with experience applying advanced analytical skills.
- Extensive supervisory experience and demonstrated leadership in managing a diverse group of direct reports that includes first-line supervisors, as well as exempt and non-exempt staff. Serve as a focal point in the integration of multiple functions/departments.
- Possess sound judgment and decision-making skills with the ability to assess complex situations, analyze information, and make well-informed and effective decisions.
- Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to explain, negotiate, persuade, and lead staff and management through conflict resolution in order to obtain consent action on complex personnel and business operations actions, achieving desirable outcomes.
- Experience interpreting and applying a wide variety of personnel policies and procedures with broad knowledge of recruiting, hiring, performance management, and staff relations practices and an understanding of HR compliance requirements for hiring FLSA, ADA, EEO, etc.
- Advanced administrative and organizational skills, including attention to detail, flexibility, and experience independently coordinating and prioritizing multiple and complex work activities, often with conflicting deadlines; ability to work effectively with short deadlines and frequent interruptions.
- Experience working effectively on a variety of institutional and/or organizational projects and resolving organizational issues.
Additional qualifications at the A01.5 level
- Experience overseeing internal and external audits, assessments, action items, or high-level inquiries.
- Broad and extensive specialized and operational knowledge of industry practices within the ES&H field.
- Experience leading and overseeing a variety of cross-organizational and/or integrated projects.
Qualifications We Desire

Security Clearance
