Communications & Marketing Officer

About This Role:

The Extension Nutrition Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) at Kansas State University, is looking for a creative and driven Communications and Marketing Officer to build, execute and manage an annual marketing plan through digital media and communication strategies that generate engagement, increases brand awareness, attract partnerships and effectively market grant funded services. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute research-driven, marketing strategy and projects to support the SNAP-Ed and EFNEP programs.
  • Work closely with the K-State Research and Extension marketing team to support the development and execution of overall marketing strategies and client service initiatives.
  • Create, edit, publish and share daily content that builds meaningful connections and encourages people to act.
  • Collaborate with graphic artist for promotional and educational material development.
  • Approve copy; ensure brand standards, style guide, and copy-edit regular communications.
  • Aid in maintaining the SNAP-Ed and EFNEP public and staff websites.
  • Identify the appropriate media for distribution of promotional information.
  • Continuously build engagement by capturing and analyzing digital analytics, insights and best practices.
  • Provide training and consultation service in social and digital media skills to SNAP-Ed and EFNEP staff. Stay current with technologies and trends in digital media, communication tools and applications.
  • Create an environment that celebrates excellence, diversity, collaboration and encourages a sense of belonging.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and one to three years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media, Public Relations or related field.
  • One to three years experience in digital information management and/or social media marketing communications experience, including basic knowledge of design software like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in creating social media and website content, SEO knowledge and using analytics to measure success.
  • Website content management in platforms like Omni and WordPress.
  • Basic understanding of health and nutrition with familiarity of USDA SNAP-Ed and EFNEP programs.
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, consulting, presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated photo/video editing skills.
  • Experience with survey and email marketing systems (Qualtrics, Mailchimp, Constant Contact).

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Valid driver’s license and some travel required

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$48,000 – 63,000 annually
