The Work You Will Do:
The Water Compliance Enforcement Program (WCEP) in the Division of Water Resource Management has a vacancy and is now accepting applications for a full-time Career Service Environmental Specialist I. This position is responsible for entering wastewater spill related data into the applicable database, providing database training, and fulfilling data requests, as well as other database and quality assurance tasks.

This position is responsible for data that must be entered in a timely manner on a daily basis. This position involves communication and coordination with the six Regulatory District offices. This also assists the Department in meeting our commitments made to the EPA under the Clean Water Act and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Pay:
$32,655.81 – $34,775.40/annually (Commensurate with experience)
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Schedules NPDES Bioassessment Sampling Kits in Laboratory Management System (LIMS). Coordinates compliance sampling activities with district and lab staff. Provide database training to internal staff.
- Using the State Watch Office Incident Tracker, collects spill related data and enters into DEP’s database, WAFR. If necessary, forwards information to internal staff.
- Performs Quality Assurance on spill related data, including verifying the data entered; finding null fields; contacting District staff to obtain data necessary for completing data entry.
- Provides training to internal staff on database enhancements or other databases needs, as needed
- Fulfills data requests or other public record requests pertaining to spills or other wastewater data.
- Assists with EzDMR Coordinator with duties, such as customer service or database related queries
- Assists with queries and Microsoft Access objects related to EzDMR and WAFR to improve processes or to meet any other needs.
- Assist with data entry of drinking water and wastewater monitoring reports as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of data management systems, procedures and workflow.
- Knowledge of the functions and procedures for the data processing quality control.
- Knowledge of general office practices.
- Knowledge of the wastewater programs, including Discharge Monitoring Reports.
- Ability to follow instructions and directions, ability to read and record information.
- Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, environmental science or one of the natural sciences OR 4-years of work experience
- Valid driver license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Teams.
- Experience with Oracle or other database systems.
