Job Summary

Operates light to medium equipment such as dump trucks, back hoes, out-front, slope and reel mowers, specialized equipment and a variety of hand tools in park maintenance and repairs. Also performs general labor as assigned.

Essential Functions

1. Operates a variety of motorized equipment, such as front-end loaders, brush trucks, dump trucks, trenchers, bush hogs, forklifts and other related maintenance and construction equipment. Some equipment requires specialized training for proper operation.

2. Performs labor duties involved in maintaining and constructing city parks, right of ways, irrigation systems, pruning trees, setting forms and pouring concrete.

3. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned. Inspects equipment before daily use.

4. Installs and repairs playground equipment, including performing safety inspections.

5. Meets with supervisory personnel to determine job scope and best use of equipment.

6. Keeps simple records of work performed.

7. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

8. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

9. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
• Must possess and exhibit the skills necessary to operate assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner (backhoe, reel mower, skid steer, bucket truck, man-lifts, forklift etc.).
• Ability to disseminate and relay oral and written instructions.
• Physical ability to perform assigned tasks.
• General knowledge of appropriate construction/maintenance practices.
• Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
• Ability to follow instructions, safety practices, and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

A high school degree or equivalent plus a minimum of six months operating park maintenance related equipment (backhoe, reel mower, skid steer, bucket truck, man-lifts, forklift etc.).

Requires a valid Texas Class A CDL with a tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and have a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, functional assessment screening (Level 1), and a Titmus vision screening.
