BEI Construction is seeking an Estimator to support our solar and battery storage divisions. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing and completing bid/submittal documents and cost estimates for solar, battery storage, substation, EV charging, microgrid, and converter station projects. This role is based at our corporate office in Alameda, CA and reports to divisional General Managers.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepare estimate from quantity take-off
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
- Evaluate possible areas for value engineering cost savings and/or competitive advantage
- Provide estimating, planning, and scheduling support to project team personnel
- Ensure all working documents and data are maintained to support estimate figures
- Develop labor productivity based on projected site conditions and historical data
- Prepare detailed listing of material and equipment items for the estimate and to obtain quotes
- Identify qualified suppliers and subcontractors and responsible for soliciting quotes
- Review quotes for completeness and conformance with plans and specifications
- Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents
- Draft scope/proposal letters for bid and negotiated projects
- Prior to the issuance of the formal bid package, provide to the General Manager a detailed scope, technical requirements, and pricing for the estimated bid package
- Upon bid win, meet with the project management team to fully explain job scope, potential areas of attention, and other aspects for the successful transition of the project
- Other duties, as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 5 year’s construction estimating experience
- Knowledgeable on utility scale solar PV and power delivery systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) and Bluebeam
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering design drawings
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
