About This Role:
The Department of Grain Science and Industry and the International Grains Program (IGP) Institute are seeking applications for an Event Coordinator & Communications Specialist. This position is a full-time, 12- month appointment with a term contract, renewable annually. IGP is a leading global education center that organizes many courses, meetings, and events throughout the year for domestic and international customers and partners.
This collaborative position works closely with academic faculty and staff and external stakeholders, including academic and industry partners, during the development and delivery of courses, programs, meetings, and other activities to ensure the experiences are consistently efficient, cost-effective, and memorable to all attendees.
In addition to overseeing the planning and execution of IGP activities, this position will build and execute social media strategies for IGP, generate and publish daily content and oversee the implementation of social media campaigns that align with IGP and departmental initiatives.
The primary objective of this position is to oversee the planning and execution of events and manage all social media platforms for IGP.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, agricultural journalism, hospitality management, event coordination, public relations, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three or more years’ related experience.
- Customer service oriented with ability to work independently.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Confidence with investigating and troubleshooting technology issues.
- Established relationships with vendors.
- Experience in managing budgets and tracking expenses.
- Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint, Acrobat, and Excel
- Ability to operate audio and visual equipment.
- Appreciation and comfort interacting with international audiences and foreign cultures.
- Strong commitment to fostering and expanding diversity and collegiality.
- Proficiency with more than one language
- Knowledge of the university setting with awareness of policies and procedures
- Excellent written, verbal, editing (photo/video/text), and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability
- Ability to work independently and within groups.
- Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
- Experience in event planning or event coordination
- Proven record of creative, successful events
- Ability to speak English clearly and to work in a multi-cultural setting.
Other Requirements:
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
- Availability to work some evenings and weekends. Travel both in state and out of state is required. Current Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain a driver’s license is required
