Job Summary
This is a lead position with the Electrical Layout Design group in the Projects and Construction (P&C) organization. This requires broad knowledge of electrical utility industry, applicable engineering principles and practices, strong technical background in substation electrical layout design, and strong leadership skills to effectively develop and lead a team of electrical layout designers. This position requires at least eight (8) years of electrical layout design experience working in the electrical utility industry or similar industry and at least two (2) years of experience leading and/or mentoring technical professionals.
Job Responsibilities
- Utilizing electrical layout knowledge and skills to complete and/or oversee all electrical layout design drawings
- Preparing and/or supervising the preparation of electrical layout drawings necessary to accurately convey construction and/or fabrication instructions
- Preparing and/or supervising the preparation of detailed bill of material (B.O.M.) required to connect major substation equipment (GIS/GIB, transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, CCVT’s, wave traps, bus, etc.)
- Familiarity with utility best practices, IEEE, NESC and industry engineering design standards
- Reviewing and/or supervising the review of engineering drawings (including technical documents) produced by external architectural and engineering (A&E) firms and/or internal designers to ensure compliance with PSE&G process, standards, and practices, constructability, maintainability, operational needs, safety and acceptable utility practice
- Serve as a lead to a team of lower grade levels to oversee electrical layout designer to ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and in accordance with established schedule,

Job Specific Qualifications
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree or technical experience
- Must have at least eight (8) years of electrical utility experience and knowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment, e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, gas insulated switchgear (GIS), regulators, capacitor banks, disconnect switches, oil pumping plants, and associated electrical system for switching and substations and/or outside plant electric distribution and/or transmission systems.
- Must have at least two (2) years leading and/or mentoring technical professionals
Other Basic Qualifications:
- Superb knowledge of Microstation/CADD software
- Strong computer skills in MS Office applications
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
- Must have strong written and verbal communications skills
- Must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and results-oriented
Desired:
- Advanced degree or technical training
- Electrical utility experience
- Familiarity with substation equipment and operations
- Able to read/understand electrical one lines
- Experience with contingency planning
- Experience with outage planning
