Overview
The Event Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of the events from the advance planning stages through the end of the event for all assigned events taking place in the venue including developing, coordinating, and supervising all event related activities key to the operation of the facility including but not limited to collection and distribution of event information from the show manager, billing preparation/support, customer service representation to our guests and logistics of departmental activities relating to events; be responsible for and ensure overall customer and lessee satisfaction and experience.
This role will pay a salary of $50,000 to $75,000.

About the Venue
McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.
Responsibilities
- Acts as primary client contact during all phases of event management, ascertain client requirements for event set-up, etc. to ensure event runs as requested. Provide clients with updates as necessary for each assigned event.
- Lead site visits and meetings with clients for all assigned events.
- Initiate and distribute required paperwork to communicate client requirements to appropriate facility Departments, and vendors.
- Prepares work-orders, event lay-outs, and post event notes for each event.
- Close out all assigned events for billing by finance department and complete all post-event requirements for all assigned events.
- Ensures facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures are enforced and adhered to.
- Anticipate problems and develop appropriate solutions. Investigates, analyzes and solves operations problems and complaints.
- Inspects completed work for conformance to standards.
- Observe and submits maintenance request orders for repairs and damages.
- Work with relevant departments to ensure the prompt invoicing of clients.
- Serves as Manager on Duty as required during scheduled events.
- Other event related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Management, Business, or related field
- 3-5 years of managerial experience in a convention center sector or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Work independently exercising judgment and initiative with minimal supervision.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with employees and others encountered through the course of employment.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
- Good oral, written and computer skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- Ability to demonstrate problem-solving and communication skills.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
- Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
- Operate standard office equipment and personal computer using MS Windows, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word.
- Must be able to stand or walk for the duration of the shift and must be able to carry and lift according to industry standards.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours that may vary to functions and may be include day, evening, weekends and holidays.
- Professional presentation, appearance and work ethic.
- Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) preferred.
- Experience in event management software (Ungerboeck) preferred.
- Experience utilizing CAD solutions preferred, but not required.
