The Department Advocates Office under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner Department Advocate is responsible for the prosecution of disciplinary cases against members of the service both Uniform and Civilian.
Directly reporting to the Deputy Commissioner, Department Advocate, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent initiative, this Executive Agency Counsel, M-I will manage, oversee and direct the disciplinary activities involved in domestic violence, sexual abuse, and employment discrimination cases and investigations. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining, a caseload of more complicated and complex cases and second seating junior attorneys. The position will require collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, and other executive staff on formulation of strategies with regard to domestic violence and sexual abuse cases as well as supervision of attorneys and support staff.
Minimum Qual Requirements
Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
