As the University’s largest and most varied academic unit, the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Science is comprised of artists, learners, performers, scholars, scientists, and teachers, and acts as a central hub where many of the Universitys disciplines intersect. The Office of the Dean for the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences (CAHSS) is the college’s administrative center directly responsible for guiding, coordinating, and applying academic, financial, and human resources policies for 22 departments, programs, schools, and centers housed in CAHSS. Nearly all 6,000 undergraduates at the University take liberal arts courses with us, and about one-third of these students declare a first major in a CAHSS program. Most of our departments, programs and schools offer masters or doctoral programs. CAHSS scholars, artists, instructors, staff, and students collaborate in a shared quest for knowledge about the human condition and the development of skills to improve our local and global communities.
Position Summary
This Executive Assistant is a benefited, full-time, exempt position that provides executive-level administrative support to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences and plays a central role in supporting the efficiency and effectiveness of the Dean’s Office. They must be an effective, professional and diplomatic liaison from the Dean to a variety of audiences including University leadership, students, staff, faculty, alumni and other constituents. The individual in this position must be committed to advocating for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following principal tasks, among others: (1) anticipating, managing, prioritizing, and facilitating the Deans’ calendars, schedules, and work flow, with the goal of advancing the work of the Dean’s office in an efficient and effective manner; (2) facilitating prompt, responsive, clear, and professional communications between the Dean’s office and other constituents, including, without limitation, faculty, staff, students, the Provost’s Office, the Chancellor’s Office, Advancement, other units, alumni, and board or council members; (3) effectively assuming, advancing, and completing a variety of seasonal and special projects in support of the Dean’s activities; and (4) collaborating with other members of the Dean’s Office in advancing the work and mission of the College. The Executive Assistant must be a proactive and highly professional partner and project manager, collaborating with the Associate Deans, Directors, and other personnel to prioritize, act on and complete responsibilities in support of meetings, communications, events, and assignments. The Executive Assistant position holds a key in-person presence in the Dean’s Office. The standard hours of the Dean’s Office are 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; on occasion there are hours required outside the standard hours.
Essential Functions
- Learns, follows and advises on the University of Denver’s and CAHSS’s policies and procedures.
- Anticipates, manages, prioritizes, and facilitates the Dean’s calendar, schedule, travel, meetings, and workflow (timelines and deadlines), with exceptional accuracy toward the goal of executing activities advanced by the Dean’s Office in an efficiently and effectively.
- Serves as a first point of contact between the College and other departments and units across DU’s campus and off-campus external contacts for the purpose of interpreting instructions and information and following commitments through to completion.
- Facilitates the creation of prompt, responsive, clear, and professional communications among the Dean’s Office staff and other constituents, including, faculty, staff, students, the Provost’s Office, the Chancellor’s Office, Advancement, CAHSS council and board members, and others as needed.
- Manages assigned listservs/groups, interacts and communicates with a strong degree of judgment, confidentiality and discretion.
- Collaborates with the Business & Operations to submit job postings and offer letters, consistent with the University’s human resources procedures; keeps reliable records and works in collaboration with the Dean’s office to assure compliance is met.
- Analyzes and resolves situations based on significant knowledge of the Dean’s priorities and, where appropriate, may exercise delegated authority to speak on behalf of the Dean regarding a variety of sensitive administrative and programmatic matters.
- Manages and supervises student workers or staff as assigned and manages various operational functions of the Deans’ Office, including acquiring office supplies, maintaining shared printers and work spaces, and assisting with general administrative needs.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Three (3) years of relevant administrative, project management, communications, or customer service experience.
- Demonstrated interest and capacity for critical thinking, problem-solving, and generating creative solutions in dynamic organizational settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in providing administrative support at the executive level.
- Experience in higher education.
- Proficiency in two or more languages.
- Demonstrated intercultural competencies.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative and office management experience.

Standard office environment.
Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. with assistance.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $55,000-70,000
