Position Description

Work Location

Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing new, and fostering and strengthening existing, strategic partnerships that are vital to the successful achievement of the City’s goals, by working with key stakeholders in the city and region to define the City’s program goals and align efforts with City and community needs.
- Promote Minneapolis as a cultural center; educating the public on the impact of the arts on the City’s economy; and strengthening neighborhoods.
- Draft, design and develop the City’s Arts work plan with input from key internal and external stakeholders for consideration and approval by the City Coordinator and elected officials; develop appropriate performance indicators and measures for assessing progress toward the plan’s outcomes.

- Represent the City before external organizations and institutions, including other City agencies, other governmental entities, educational institutions, the business community, foundations, cultural communities and neighborhood associations, and the general public as required, focusing on appropriate public outreach and communication in support of the arts and arts community.
- Ensure that key City stakeholders and external partners have established effective relationships that foster an environment that allows for the achievement of the program goals, stepping away from partnership activities when appropriate and engaging in partnership activities when necessary.
- Coordinate partnership activities regularly in collaboration with the Mayor, City Council Members, City Coordinator and other key partners to achieve the City’s Arts goals; regularly reporting to the City Coordinator and elected officials, verbally and in writing, on the status of partnerships, and funding opportunities, and achievement of program goals.
- Work to identify and secure funding and other resources (public, private and philanthropic) that the support the goals of the City.
- Develop strong network and outreach with the comprehensive arts community – visual, theater, music, language, performance, etc.; serve as City’s troubleshooter and liaison, as needed, between the arts community and City officials and Departments.

Required Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, Art History, Studio Arts or equivalent
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Five years of experience in arts organization and program Administration

Desirable Qualifications — Language
Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Hmong, Vietnamese and/or Lao.

Selection Process
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). Eligible List Statement

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Knowledge of arts and artists in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area; the arts, educational and related institutions in the region.
- Knowledge of and experience working with local government preferred.
- Working knowledge of neighborhood or other community-based associations and advocates, non-profit and philanthropic communities.
- Demonstrated success bringing together representatives from varied backgrounds, leveraging assets and resources among all partners, to achieve program goals.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, and effective presentation skills.
- Considerable knowledgeable of communications media and working knowledge of how they can be employed to build relationships and support; and educate the public.
