NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$65,300 – $146,200
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
Sandia National Laboratories is seeking to hire a highly motivated Civil/Structural Engineer to support the development of in-house electrical design and engineering capabilities within this group. This new group will provide Sandia with the internal capability to self-execute design services at Sandia National Labs in New Mexico.
We are looking for a detail/results-orientated and passionate teaming individual to support a dynamic group of architects, designers and engineers in the development, design, and construction of building and infrastructure projects!
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Manage customer requests; research, analyze, model, design, develop plans and maintain design standards required for reliable operation of civil infrastructure systems.
- Assist with the design for civil, structural, and utility components, systems, and products and integrate these to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations; compliance with code and contractual requirements; and performance-based design and customer requirements.
- Assess capabilities and condition of existing civil, structural, and utility structures, components, equipment, and systems and make recommendations for improvements.
- Assist is providing site services with facilities architectural and engineering team members.
- Assist in the assessment of structural building systems and site infrastructure issues, conceptualize potential solutions, make recommendations, and develop project plans.
- Provide structural engineering analysis and associated calculations (concrete, steel, masonry and wood).
- Apply your knowledge and understanding of current building codes.
- Provide structural drafting & detailing as well as plan and calculation reviews.
- Review preventive maintenance procedures on structural system assets.
- Develop inspection and acceptance procedures for systems and components.
- Maintain compliance with code, contractual, performance-based design, and customer requirements.
- Support the efforts of the organization to collaborate with Department of Energy and KAFB as needed.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant, for one of the hiring organizations, will be required to work onsite.
For a different hiring organization, the selected applicant will be eligible for telecommuting, and they must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university; or an Associate’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Structural Engineering plus four (4) years of relevant experience; or a Master’s Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
- Knowledge and/or experience with one or more of the following:
- PC platforms; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- RISA and Enercalc analysis structural software
- IBC, IEBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 41
- Experience with a computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- NM Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate and able to obtain a Professional Engineer license.
- Experience in relevant civil engineering software applications: HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, or related software.
- Experience using CADD and GIS Software; Bentley MicroStation or AutoCAD, GIS Mapping (Bentley Map, ArcGIS or other).
- Experience developing specifications, plans and other construction documents.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to think critically and make decisions requiring engineering judgment.
