NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$100,900 – $195,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
We are looking for a dedicated and energetic individual to join our Facilities Management team as a Facilities Civil/Structural Engineer. Our fast-paced, National Laboratory setting necessitates that the candidate be comfortable with ambiguity and variability of assignment and accept the value of being in a service group. We seek a well-rounded individual, adept at problem solving in a variety of settings.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Perform civil/structural design for building and site infrastructure, or oversee design by others, and integrate these to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations
- Lead or be a part of a multi-disciplined design group, develop and design construction document packages to meet customer requirements, relevant building codes, environmental regulations, safety regulations, and corporate standards
- Perform engineering analysis, calculations, develop construction drawings, and specifications sufficient to define systems for modification or new construction
- Oversee project efforts, through in-house and external resources, to meet established scope, schedule, and cost outcomes
- Manage and interface with external, contracted resources for the completion of construction work in compliance with Federal procurement processes
- Inspect construction progress in accordance with design requirements, codes, customer needs, and site standards
- Perform investigative analyses to determine causes and origins of civil, structural, or site utility system failures
This position is eligible for part-time telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance from the Livermore campus for commuting to the assigned work location.

Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or relevant field plus five or more years of relevant experience
- Experience performing civil/structural design for the development of various building and site infrastructure, such as steel frame structures, concrete masonry unit, pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete, asphalt, storm drainage, and poly pipe systems for site utility systems
- Knowledge of California Building Codes and California environmental regulations
- Ability to obtain Professional Engineer license (PE) in the State of California within a year of hire
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Ability to manage projects from concept through design and construction
- PMP certification from the Project Management Institute
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- Experience utilizing AutoCad or similar drafting software
