General Description of Position:

Serves as the Utility Worker IV for Ivy Tech Community College responsible for campus grounds work, maintenance and support services to maintain the school site as well as building MEP systems with an emphasis on HVAC issues and electrical system operation.

Any regular or major change in assignment must be discussed with your supervisor. Day-to-day alterations may be made to cope with special circumstances at the judgment of the Utility Worker IV.

Major Responsibilities:

Access and use of the College’s work order system to retrieve daily schedules, log work, and room set-ups. Assist in furniture and equipment storage/relocation, pick up, deliver supplies, materials, and work at sites within the Region. This includes driving a College vehicle from the fleet.
Augment personnel during vacation, sickness, construction projects, remodeling, etc.
Specific duties for this position are maintaining proper room temperatures and resolving all temperature related issues throughout the campus. Inspection & initial diagnosis of all HVAC issues, then perform minor repairs of the campus HVAC systems. Any issues that cannot be repaired in house must be communicated to the supervisor. This position is the first line liaison between the college and the HVAC contractor for repairs that must be contracted out. This position is expected to learn and improve knowledge of the campus HVAC systems through communications and observations with the HVAC Contractors. Basic knowledge of general electricity as it pertains to office electrical outlets and lighting is required along with a basic knowledge of mechanical systems such as air compressors, HVAC system motors, pumps, filters and drive belts. Plumbing systems such as piping and pumps as they pertain to an office or lab environment.
The above listed duties and responsibilities will include lifting and physical exertion. Guidelines for single person lifting: NO REPETITIVE LIFTING OF OBJECTS OVER 50 POUNDS. A one-time lift or movement of objects may be necessary, but only using accepted lifting procedures and using extreme caution. If repetitive lifting exceeds the guidelines, seek additional assistance. OTHER
Extra duties: Assist in campus safety/security drills (as required). Open Regional buildings, disarm security, and prepare the buildings for operation as scheduled. May be contacted at any time to investigate breaks in Building security.

The hours/work schedule for this position are 7:00 to 3:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The schedule may be modified to work Monday through Friday if there is no need for full coverage on Saturday. The position rotates through a preset schedule for building coverage on for security checks on Sundays, Holidays and Saturdays (if the normal work schedule is modified). Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and a valid Indiana Driver’s License required. Must be able to: read; work independently; operate hand/maintenance tools, operate lawn maintenance equipment, have some electrical service knowledge, working knowledge of plumbing systems and HVAC systems. Must maintain working relationships with faculty, staff, students and relevant contractors.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of or experience in maintenance and/or construction work preferred with a specialty in electrical and HVAC systems.
