Facilities Planning Director

Job Summary:
The School of Education is a unique school made up of ten diverse academic departments, three major research units, and many outreach and support units, all known for their dedication to high-quality outcomes and their desire to positively impact our world. The Facilities Planning Director will provide leadership in the areas of space planning and management, large scale building projects, master facility planning, parking, and event management. The Facilities Planning Director will lead a team of three professional staff. The Facilities Planning Director serves as a critical liaison between our departments and units and the Facility Planning and Management unit at the campus level. Reporting to the School of Education’s Chief Financial Officer, this position will work collaboratively with School leadership, department and unit leadership, and campus facility staff to meet the School’s facility and space needs. The Facilities Planning Director provides leadership, supervision, and professional direction for the School of Education’s facilities management program, including directing space planning and management, small and large scale building and renovation projects, and long-range facility planning for the School to ensure they meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff. This position leads a team of three professional staff responsible for the day-to-day functions of the facilities management program, parking, and event support. This position leads the development of the biennial capital development plan for the School of Education. The Facilities Planning Director also serves as a critical liaison between our departments and units and the Facility Planning and Management unit at the campus level.

– Experience leading large-scale building projects is preferred.
Responsibilities: Develops budget and policy and provides leadership for the division and university on physical development projects in support of efficient and effective institutional capital facilities planning initiatives. Participates in a leadership role in the development of the biennial capital development plan.

  • 30% Develops and directs plans of one or multiple facilities or projects to foster innovative solutions for facilities planning
  • 25% Serves as a key liaison to internal and external stakeholders to maintain strategic business relationships that foster development objectives
  • 10% Develops, executes, and utilizes strategic planning analysis and research to determine long term institutional needs and develop sustainable solutions
  • 10% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with facilities planning regulations, best practices, and institutional objectives
  • 5% Develops and audits the program budget
  • 10% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Manage and lead various administrative functions, including parking, meeting and event reservations/support, and space planning and management.

Qualifications:
Experience Required:
– Minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities planning and space management
– Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience

Experience Preferred:
– Demonstrated experience leading large-scale building projects (greater than $1 million)
– Demonstrated experience developing or facilitating master facility plans
