Job Summary

This is a second level management position in the Electric Transmission and Distribution Vegetation Management Organization. Duties include: Preparation, initiation and execution of budgets, financial forecasts and accountability, work schedules, and regulatory compliance programs for the workforce (PSE&G and contractor).

Job Responsibilities

Coordinate contractor activities/oversight efforts, establish and deploy required training, and review performance through the completion of contractor quality assessments and site inspections to ensure the work is being completed in compliance with required procedures and established regulatory requirements. Achieve the desired results through the use of PSEG values and tools, sound management practices and skills and a total commitment to teamwork. Oversee the activities of the Distribution Vegetation Management workforce (PSE&G and contractor) to ensure safe and efficient implementation of vegetation management activities, process and procedures. Promote safety principles. Assign and direct work to accomplish the desired results in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner. Assist in the training and development of personnel. Counsel associates, as required, perform mid-year/year-end evaluations of direct reports and assist in personnel development. Ability to layout/supervise the work of others. As needed, train/instruct personnel in work practices and use of tools and equipment. Must have ability to recognize unusual conditions and take corrective action. Must have knowledge of Utility Line Clearance operations, equipment and procedures regarding contractor and internal vegetation management personnel. Must assist electric divisions in the emergency response and direct operations of division foresters and forestry personnel for “routine” and major weather events. Must be willing to respond outside of normal hours; this position is Exempt and generally, hours worked beyond 40 hours in a workweek are not eligible for extra compensation.

Job Specific Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Forestry or Arboriculture with at least 5 years’ in utility vegetation management or equivalent experience of at least ten years’ in electric utility vegetation management.
  • Must be a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture.
  • Must be a Utility Specialist with the International Society of Arboriculture.
  • Must be a NJ Licensed Tree Expert (LTE) or obtain NJ Tree Expert License within 24 months of start date.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record record.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal environmental compliance requirements regarding utility vegetation management in New Jersey.
  • Working knowledge of State applicable to Distribution Vegetation Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable ANSI, OSHA, and Best Management Practices regarding utility line clearance vegetation management activities.
  • Experience supervising direct reports and overseeing work of contractors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to comprehend reporting and analytical metrics.
