Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, Northern Recreation and Leisure Services Division is seeking a Facility Director.
The Facility Director is responsible for the day to day operations and management of the facility. Duties include: supervising full time and part time program staff as well as overseeing maintenance, security and improvements of the facility and its equipment; facility rental; all marketing and public relations for facilities programs; expenditures and revenues, cash handling and budgeting; and establishing operating procedures.
Examples of Important Duties
- Manage community center. Establish, recommends and monitor operating procedures (i.e. hours, building maintenance and repairs).
- Supervise full-time (career), intermittent, volunteer and contracted employees. Recruits, interviews, selects and trains staff. Conducts performance appraisals. Counsels and disciplines employees.
- Monitor fiscal requirements. Controls expenditures within approved budget for the facility assigned. Initiates purchase requisitions, check requests, and contracts.
- Plans, schedules, and assigns work. Approve timecards and leave request for career and seasonal staff.
- Creates a comprehensive programming plan of classes, activities and special events to serve the area. This includes creating, developing, implementing, marketing, and evaluating.
- Community Relations. Meet with citizens, community groups, schools and associations within service area.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree or four years experience in one of the following fields: parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or in area of required specialty; and
2. Three years of progressive professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or area of required specialty, including one year as a facility manager, program coordinator or supervisor; or
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience; and,
4. A valid operating license (i.e. county pool operator’s license, child care license, etc.) where appropriate.
5. A valid driver’s license may be required.

In the Commission, a Facility Director will be in charge of an entire seasonal workforce that can grow from 20 to upwards of 50 depending on the time of year. Additionally, the directormay also supervise another career staff member who will be at an entry-level management position. Most of these staff look to the Facility Director for professional development guidance.
