Job Description

The University of Missouri Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR) is a Regional Biocontainment Laboratory located on the MU-Columbia campus. LIDR is a critical resource for University of Missouri faculty and collaborating scientists who perform research on infectious diseases and is part of our nation’s effort to protect public health.

The Laboratory for Infectious Disease Research (LIDR) is seeking a Facility Engineer. This person will take a conscientious approach to support the LIDR facility. This person should have management skills and a background or education in facilities systems and maintenance.

The LIDR Facility Engineer reports directly to Facility Manager and will focus on reliable facility operation, safety, and regulatory compliance. Candidates should be committed to excellence and believe in the University Missions of being a world-class research institution.

Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include:

  • Technical writing and review of equipment PM’s and facilities Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Facility documentation including but not limited to equipment history records and certifications.
  • Situational project and maintenance oversight to ensure facility operational safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Routine monitoring of facility systems and subsystems noting and reporting deficiencies, failures, or improvement opportunities.
  • Secure and maintain CDC Select Agent approval.
  • Serve as a backup to the facility manager overseeing security operations including access for building users, contractors, deliveries, and other visitors.
  • Be part of team to review changes or modifications to equipment or the facility that could impact operation or facility compliance.
  • Certify work performed by contractors is compliant with contract documents.
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance activities receive proper oversight by coordinating with Facility Manager.
  • Be able to grasp, lift, carry, and set down moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) objects and climb and work from ladders on an occasional basis.
  • Read and interpret drawing, plans and blueprints.
  • Research new or replacement equipment and applying appropriate equivalency standards when applicable.

Salary

Salary Range: $50,367.29 – $90,000/year
Grade: GGS-010

University Title: Engineer I

Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in facility management, maintenance, or operation of research laboratory facility
