Pay Range
$136,500 – $175,272 Annually for the TSS.3 level
$163,740 – $210,288 Annually for the TSS.4 level
Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.
Job Description
We have an opening for a Facility Maintenance Manager familiar with facility structures, systems, and components (SSCs) and high-explosives programmatic operations within the High-Explosives Enterprise in support of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s (LLNL’s) national security mission at Site 300. You will apply technical knowledge and skills in support of maintenance and calibration activities in Site 300 facilities associated with research and programmatic investigations of energetic materials. You will lead a team of coordinators and technicians and organize and manage a wide range of facility and programmatic functions, such as scheduling and performing system maintenance, troubleshooting errors, ensuring calibrations, establishing and managing key performance indicators (KPIs), and overseeing procurements in support of facility maintenance, upgrades, and modifications. This position is in the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Facilities Operations and Support organization in the WCI Directorate.
This position will be filled at either the TSS.3 or TSS.4 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
You will
- Establish and maintain Site 300 preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules and coordinate work activities within Site 300 facilities to ensure reliable and safe operations of facility and programmatic equipment/systems.
- Provide advanced technical and managerial oversight and/or coordination of maintenance and calibration activities; coordinate the efficient use of manpower, materials, equipment, and time to ensure proper and efficient operation and adherence to security and environmental, safety, and health (ES&H) policies and procedures and internal and external regulatory requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate significant maintenance/construction projects and operations to ensure compliance with complex technical performance/regulatory compliance requirements.
- Develop requirements and integrate facility-wide automated maintenance program; while developing and maintaining maintenance procedures, including task codes/plans.
- Provide strategic recommendations and solutions to senior management for facility modifications and changes in support of self-identified, programmatic, and institutionally-directed initiatives and champion projects, including equipment replacements and upgrades.
- Collaborate with technical, managerial, and administrative personnel within other WCI facilities, project management organizations, and Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS) maintenance and supplemental labor organizations (e.g., subcontractors and Infrastructure and Operations maintenance personnel).
- Develop and implement plans to promote culture and inclusion, diversity, equity and accountability (IDEA).
- Serve on audit and assessment teams, facility committees, emergency management teams, and other initiatives, as required.

Additional job responsibilities, at the TSS.4 level
- Provide strategic recommendations and briefings to senior management. Provide highly advanced solutions to highly complex issues/problems where a high degree of ambiguity exists around techniques and approaches.
- Develop new or creative ideas, performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), advanced techniques and approaches, and/or redefine requirements that impact organizational operation or direction. Independently direct technical projects, briefing senior management upon completion of projects, with little or no direction.
- Direct and develop technical projects where work is frequently not well defined and generally consists of a diverse range of complex problems. Scope of work involves parallel tasks requiring the resolution of conflicting work requirements and prioritization of tasks toward long-range goals/targets.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience with significant related experience in maintenance and operations of facility systems, site infrastructure systems, or automated maintenance systems.
- Extensive experience in maintenance program development and implementation, including the management of an equipment/parts inventory and management program.
- Ability to use highly independent judgment and provide sound technical evaluations and recommendations in high hazard facility maintenance.
- Experience with programmatic and technical support activities, including work planning and control and safety basis implementation.
- Significant knowledge of electrical or mechanical design and installation standards and practices.
- Extensive experience in the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of facility and programmatic mechanical or electrical systems.
- Expert technical and organizational problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to provide solutions to highly complex or conflicting issues.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical or operational information and provide advice to management, regulators, reviewers, and stakeholders.
- Experience as a Subcontract Technical Representative (STR) managing maintenance and construction work through initiating a requisition, selecting a subcontractor, managing submittals, oversight,and closeout.
- Demonstrated experience implementing plans that promote and value inclusion, diversity, equity and accountability (IDEA) principles in the workplace.
Additional qualifications at the TSS.4 level
- Significant experience as a maintenance supervisor or manager at a DOE facility.
- Subject matter expert (SME) knowledge of DOE policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, for high hazard facilities and explosive facilities.
- Significant experience successfully resolving highly complex technical or managerial issues.
Qualifications We Desire
- Extensive experience at a DOE, U.S. Navy, or commercial high-hazard facility performing maintenance activities.
- Experience in high-explosives facilities and operations environment.

Site 300
Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis ).
Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
