Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):
The Early Childhood Education is dedicated to facilitating a learning environment that respects the diversity of each student, teaches to students’ learning style, and assists students in developing the knowledge and skills necessary for their profession.
Job Summary Statement (brief summary of overall responsibility of position):
The Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing the delivery of instruction for a program, discipline, or group of related programs or disciplines. In addition, the Program Coordinator will assist in the administration and coordination of activities assigned by the department chair and will provide department leadership to early childhood education and education instructors.
A Program Coordinator must hold an appointment as a full-time faculty member in at least one program or discipline within the department that the program coordinator oversees.
The Program Coordinator is to provide classroom, laboratory or practicum, or related instruction under the supervision of the Department Chair. This position is responsible for planning and providing student instruction in accordance with approved syllabi, curriculum guidelines, and required program standards.
The Program Coordinator will promote excellence in department programs at Pueblo Community College, and will support the college’s Mission, Vision and Values.
In addition to performing the duties assigned to full-time faculty at PCC, a Program Coordinator serves to provide leadership and administration to an academic department(s). Responsibilities include department leadership, program review and planning, curriculum management, assessment activities, student advisement, evaluation, recruitment and mentoring of qualified instructional staff.
Maintains a work schedule as agreed upon by the supervisor and in concert with the state and faculty workload policy (at least a forty-hour work week with a minimum of 24 hours on campus, which can include co-ops and off-campus assignments).
Maintains regularly scheduled office hours (a minimum of five per week) for consultation and advisement of students.
Job Duties
Essential Functions:
Teaching:
- Teaches courses as assigned within faculty workload guidelines and meets all scheduled classes unless the class has been canceled, or with the permission of the Department Chair and/or Academic Dean. Provides adequate preparation of the course material. Serves as a substitute within the program for absent colleagues for short-term absences as needed. Maintains a work schedule as agreed upon by the supervisor and in concert with the state and faculty workload policy (at least a forty-hour work week with a minimum of 24 hours on campus, which can include co-ops or off-campus assignments.)
Department Leadership:
- Adopting, implementing, and supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies throughout the department(s), including Equity-Minded Teaching and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy.
- Recommends class schedules consistent with the mission and goals of the department. Recommends the assignment of appropriate classes to division-designated labs, studios, and classrooms.
- Prepares and recommends faculty teaching assignments and schedules.
- Coordinates the ordering of textbooks or development of OER materials.
- Recommends and makes provisions for substitute instructors when necessary.
- Conducts annual observation and written peer evaluation of instructors within the department(s).
- Assists the department chair with the orientation and support of faculty.
- Assists in conflict resolution between students and instructors within the department.
- Performs other duties that pertain to the operation of the department(s) as mutually agreed upon by the department chair, including duties performed during the TEN working days over the summer.
- Produces the department’s assessment plan and previous year’s report in collaboration with department(s) instructors and the Director of Assessment of Student Learning.
- Oversees CTE program reviews for the ECE departments.
- Assists with articulation arrangements between the college and external educational institutions
Part-Time Instructor Management:
- Coordinates student advising with the center for Academic Advising and responds to inquiries about the program(s) or discipline(s).
- Provides advising to students seeking degrees offered by the department(s)
Service Duties:
- Attends all regularly scheduled department, division, and college meetings/trainings as required by contract, unless these meetings conflict with a scheduled class or unless the faculty member is excused by the chair/supervisor or Dean.
- Serves on and contributes to a minimum of one college committee or special task force per academic year after the first provisional year.
- Participates in graduation ceremony.
- Coordinates marketing, recruitment, and retention activities for department(s).
- Coordinates a minimum of two (2) ECE advisory committee meetings and activities per year.
- Maintains communication and collaboration with the entire PCC service areas (Pueblo, Southwest and Fremont).
- Attends state-level discipline meetings to include but not limited to 2:2/ECE, Early Childhood Higher Education Programs, Rural College Consortium Meetings.
- Networking with service area colleges/universities (CSU-P and UCCS).
Non-Essential Functions:
- Attends community workshops and trainings.
- Attends monthly Pueblo Early Childhood Council meetings.
- In addition to faculty responsibilities, faculty are also expected to support and assist with student orientations, advising, and registration. Absences will be minimal and only for appropriate cause; notification of supervisor is required. Faculty must provide coverage or obtain approval for class cancellation according to PCC policy. Two personal days per year are available with approval. Refer to PCC Operational Procedures and Protocols for further information.
- Engages in ongoing professional development in the areas of active learning and cultural competency.
- Faculty are expected to model professionalism in dress, action, and communication. Accordingly, faculty are obliged to respond professionally to constructive feedback and to follow the chain of command in resolving conflicts.
- Faculty must adhere to the laws, policies, procedures, rules, and applications which govern and affect the college, including the fiscal rules of the State of Colorado.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Special Education with at least 5 years of experience in Early Childhood Education OR
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with at least 10 years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
Licenses or Certificates:
- Eligible for a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Credentialing in the state of Colorado
Experience:
- At least two years of teaching experience as a child care center director or infant, toddler, or preschool elementary teacher.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Demonstrated excellence in writing and oral communications skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills in an academic environment
- Understanding of Learning Management Software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
