Position Announcement
Utah Valley University School of the Arts invites applications for a lecturer to join our faculty in the Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage and Screen. The position is a one-year, temporary position. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and skilled pedagogue and/or professional practitioner able to teach, mentor, and inspire in a variety of design, production, and/or technical theatre courses taught in the department. Courses taught could include any of our design classes such as Intro to Design, Rendering, Stagecraft, Scenic Design, Costume Design and/or Construction, Stage Management, or Stage Makeup, or a generalist class such as Intro to Theatre as well as any other courses a candidate may be qualified to teach. Candidates are encouraged to think broadly about any design, production, or technical theatre courses they are qualified to teach and are not expected to be able to teach all the course examples listed.
Summary of Responsibilities

  • (60%) Preparing and teaching courses as assigned.
  • (15%) Participate in performance or design assessments, auditions, and other events throughout the semester and as needed.
  • (15%) Mentor students and hold office hours to meet with students regarding their work for class and outside class, and work with recruitment efforts within the department.
  • (10%) Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
MA, MFA, or PhD or the equivalent terminal theatre degree, or equivalent professional experience; university teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current industry practices;
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate with a team;
  • Ability to teach and mentor students at multiple levels of college experience.
