The Digital & Mixed-Signal System Solutions team at HRL Laboratories is seeking an electrical or computer engineering student to aid with the development of an HW/SW platform to implement machine learning algorithms for radio frequency applications.
Essential Duties:
• Perform a thorough literature survey of existing commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded platforms for i) Software Defined Radio (SDR) and ii) AI accelerator hardware. Capture trade-offs and present findings to key stakeholders.
• Define and develop numerous hardware and software interfaces spanning RF front-end to AI accelerator. Code development will likely involve multiple software frameworks such as Xilinx Vivado and PyTorch.
• Support senior staff in demonstrating a complete end-to-end solution (RF-to-information signal chain) which leverages the HW/SW platform.
• Document all aspects of the hardware and software solutions in the context of a creating a re-usable framework.
Required Skills:
• Familiarity with different families of FPGAs, DSPs, and microcontrollers.
• Experience programming in C/C++, Python, MATLAB, Tensorflow or OpenCL/CUDA, Verilog, and other low-level languages.
• Ability to rapidly prototype with evaluation platforms.
• Familiarity with RF and high-speed digital test equipment.
• Knowledge of RF components, communication systems, radar systems, and EW systems is a plus.
Required Education:
Graduate student pursuing a degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering

Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, complex electronic equipment, oral and written communication, interaction with vendors/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.

Compensation:
The pay range for this position is $35-$50 per hour.
