Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a Family and Consumer Science Educator (FACS) to teach highly specialized FACS courses to blind and visually impaired students at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. This position conducts ongoing evaluations of assigned students and adjusts instruction; accordingly, develops and modifies as necessary a sequential instructional curriculum to meet the needs of individual students assigned; prepares daily attendance reports; oversees the care and use of equipment and supplies; and attends, and participates in staff meetings and professional development in relation to areas of endorsement.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Serves as Family and Consumer Science Educator (FACS) and teaches highly specialized FACS assignments to blind and visually impaired students.
  2. Conducts ongoing evaluation of assigned students and adjusts instruction accordingly.
  3. Develops and modifies as necessary a sequential instructional curriculum to meet the needs of individual students assigned.
  4. Prepares daily attendance reports.
  5. Oversees the care and use of equipment and supplies.
  6. Attends and participates in staff meetings and professional development in relation to areas of endorsement.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires possession of a current, valid Educator license with Stipulation (ELS) issued by ISBE appropriately endorsed for Career Technical Educator and each grade level, content area and instructional area approved and assigned to work.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. A current/valid ELS issued by ISBE with endorsements in the area Home Economics course work (Nutrition and Culinary Arts (19.0501 CIP); Cooking and Related Culinary Arts (12.0500 CIP); previous endorsement codes CRCA, FNWS, now FNCC; Family and Consumer Science Fashion and Environmental Design Apparel and Textile General (19.0901 CIP) aka endorsement codes FPMC, ATMC, ATMM now FCED.
  2. One (1) year of professional experience teaching experience with children who are blind and/or visually impaired.
  3. One (1) year of professional experience working with current education trends, techniques, and best practices.
  4. One (1) year of professional experience operating a computer.
  5. One (1) year of professional experience utilizing the tools, materials and equipment associated with required coursework.
  6. One (1) year of professional experience maintaining effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: 8:00am – 3:45pm Monday-Friday
