Description
Functions as a part of a multidisciplinary team to promote the development and maintenance of client independence and daily living competencies. Provides support, guidance and mentoring to youth and families in a strength-based approach to achieve outcomes. Family Support Specialists tasks and responsibilities vary depending on the needs and goals for individuals served; therefore, a level of flexibility to work outside agency business hours is expected.
Examples of Duties
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as best practice or requirements change within the practice field.
1. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team providing direct service to families that are strength based and in accordance with all statutes standards, policies, and procedures.
2. Provide support and guidance to youth and families to achieve case outcomes. This may include mentoring in areas of Home Management, Independent Living, Job Readiness, Budgeting, and Parenting etc.
3. Arrange and/or provide transportation to clients, as appropriate. This may involve transportation of clients in the employee’s personal vehicle. Agency vehicle usage is expected unless an agency vehicle is unavailable.
4. Assist with Case Management tasks, such as supervise and facilitate family interaction, assess for safety, and collect drug tests as necessary.
5. Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with all agency teams, schools, law enforcement, courts, foster parents, family members and other organizations
6. Complete any necessary documentation in a timely effective manner
7. Participate in team meetings and provide updates and recommendations as necessary
8. Participate and/or facilitate committees and meetings within the agency to promote the values of the organization
The following are additional essential functions specific to family support Juvenile Court Services Team:
- Work with parents on parenting issues and other concerns by being a mentor and role model.
- Provide services and assistance to youth, families,and other unit programs, to include but not limited to GPS Program, PACE Program, Community Service, Restitution Project, Teen Court, and Community Youth Advocate Program.
- Provide input at team meetings based upon field observations.
- Assist the team leader in the development, monitoring, and updating of the family’s case plan.
- Conduct drug screens.
- Facilitate youth groups and activities.
- Mentor youth and children.
- Provide training and guidance in the development of independent living skills to juveniles.
Typical Qualifications
Training, Experience and Other Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Willingness to transport agency clients, utilizing personal vehicle if necessary.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Unlimited access to a personal vehicle.
- A minimum of $250,000/$500,000 auto liability insurance coverage verified upon hire and at renewal by providing a copy of the declaration page of your policy from your insurance carrier.
