Job Summary
Bellevue Parks & Community Services is seeking an experienced and dependable Farm Program Instructor to teach farm themed classes, lead group tours, and host birthday parties for various age groups at Kelsey Creek Farm. Classes may include, but are not limited to: adult/child classes, drop off pre-school age classes, day camps, and single day workshops.

Kelsey Creek Farm instructors need to be mature, knowledgeable, skilled, motivated, and dynamic individuals that enjoy teaching classes to primarily younger children and are able to work with all age groups. Kelsey Creek Farm instructors need to be comfortable working in a farm environment with children, adults, and livestock. This position reports directly to the Kelsey Creek Farm Program Coordinator.

Working Schedule: Hours may vary and may require weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach participants; provide guidance, interaction, and support to activity participants.
  • Oversee program/activity participants; provide instruction, direction and assistance as needed; provide safe and quality experiences to participants in all programs.
  • Play and lead a variety of activities including active games, reading stories, singing songs, and doing arts and crafts.
  • Supervise classroom/activity; maintain and secure class rosters; ensure all necessary paperwork is complete.
  • Determine participant skill level; adjust instruction as needed.
  • Assist in developing program curriculum, and lesson plans primarily related to farm, history, science, heritage crafts, and other similar themes.
  • Ensure program/facility rules, policies and procedures are followed; maintain and enforce safety standards.
  • Monitor safety practices: remedy or report unsafe practices or conditions immediately. Be able to quickly respond to an emergency.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and storage of any program equipment.
  • Be flexible and able to adjust activities and plan activities on the spot.
  • Maintain a clean and attractive classroom area.
  • Respond to community and participant inquiries and concerns; provide information about parks, recreation and community services programs, activities, and services.
  • Collect data, maintain records, develop reports and assist program staff with other administrative support tasks.
  • Follow all animal handling procedures, be aware of and report any animal health or behavior concerns to supervisor.
  • Meet/communicate regularly with Program Coordinator regarding concerns, updates, challenges, upcoming classes, and lesson plans.
  • May assist with special events, day camps, and other activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of assigned parks, recreation and community services programs, activities and services.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Ability to work with cash and make change.
  • Ability to follow instructions, written and verbal.
  • Ability to use a computer to enter and track data, research information and communicate program details to participants.
  • Ability to work various schedules including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to enforce facility rules, policies, guidelines and safety standards.
  • Ability to safely perform job tasks in a variety of park and non-park settings.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

  • Must have adequate teaching or childcare experience as documented in resume.
  • One year of experience teaching or leading groups.
  • High school diploma or GED required; college-level course work preferred.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • First Aid, CPR or similar certification or training may be required for some positions.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for some positions.

Definition of a Variable Employee:

  • Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire
  • Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be 28 hours per week or less
  • NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month)
