Pay Range

$85,800 -$127,884 Annually

$85,800 – $106,536 Annually for the A07.2 level

$102,990 – $127,884 Annually for the A07.3 level

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Film Scanning and Data Processing Specialist. You will work closely with staff scientists and information management technicians to digitize and provide access to science and engineering resources. You will be responsible for tasks related to scanning film data and converting captured film into usable film data products for the prompt diagnostics data analysis lead. This position will support the Nuclear Test Data program within the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) directorate.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will

  • Scan and read historically significant films with electronic hardware and proprietary software.
  • Contribute to development and revision of film scanning and reading operations and procedures.
  • Interpret mechanical and electronic diagrams and organize information from these documents.
  • Interact with an external software development team and provide quality assurance feedback.
  • Meet customer needs, assess requirements, and identify solutions.
  • Apply archival methods and practices to acquire, organize, preserve, and catalog historically significant film data and related documents.
  • Solve technical problems associated with scanning, digitization, interpreting documentation, keywording and metadata for data document archiving.
  • Recognize and support plans to promote and foster a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability within the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities at the A07.3 level:

  • Develop and implement new film scanning and reading operations.
  • Develop new methods to interpret and archive mechanical and electronic diagrams.
  • Primary point-of-contact for external software development team and direct development activities.
  • Anticipate customer needs, assess the full requirements, and collaborate to identify non-standard and unique solutions.
  • Train and mentor internal staff and external partners to preserve institutional knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in digital media, photography, electronic records management, computer science, electrical engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience with databases, graphical user interfaces, and knowledge of film digitization, film scanning, and camera technologies.
  • Familiarity with Computer Aided Design (CAD), CAD drawings, electronics/circuit diagrams.
  • Ability to coordinate complex tasks by interacting independently with professionals in the execution of responsibilities with varied and dynamic priorities.
  • Experience with Windows OS, Linux OS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat DC, FileMaker Pro, Atlassian, Jira, Confluence, CaptureOne Camera software, and/or version control platforms.
  • Data entry and data analysis experience.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work in a collaborative research environment and to document and organize technical data.
  • Demonstrated ability/commitment to promote and value inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability principles in the workplace.

Additional qualifications at the A07.3 level

  • In-depth knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of electronic and circuit diagrams.
  • Advanced database query and database development skills.
  • Advanced photography and film processing experience.
  • Experience with programming languages like C++, R, python, or Matlab.
  • Experience in developing and organizing standard operating procedures.
  • Comprehensive experience applying analysis tools (such as financial analysis tools).
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, write technical reports, and present film data processing techniques to collaborators across the DOE Complex.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
