Job Description:The Financial Aid Counselor performs the day-to-day advising and support to students and parents regarding financial aid, as well as supporting technical processes and general operations of the Financial Aid office. Ensures compliance with institutional and relevant regulatory requirements, and shares responsibility with the Financial Aid team for the overall administration of financial aid services to new and to continuing students.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess financial need of students and advise students and parents regarding financial aid options, process and requirements, and financial aid policies and procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service and actively participate in the Curry Center for Student Services.
  • Promptly follow up with applicant requests for information received via email, online, or in person to resolve questions about applications, general eligibility and status inquiries.
  • Participate in student aid packaging.
  • Help to manage day-to-day operations of the Office of Financial Aid
  • Support campus outreach programs and written communication by performing financial aid presentations on and off campus.
  • Perform reviews for professional judgment.
  • Provide counseling and support during special campus events.
  • Participate in training sessions and conferences as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements
  • Experience with processing of Direct Loans and ISIR’s
  • Experience with COD, CPS, and NSLD
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of current needs analysis methodology and federal and state financial aid program
  • Banner, Argos, COD, ED Connect, DL Tools, FileZilla
  • Basic Knowledge of Student Accounts, Registrar, and Admissions processes
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and/or verify information accurately
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing
  • Perform consistently under the pressure of deadlines and other administrative demands and work cooperatively with others
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of multi-cultural, diverse environments and college students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Dual Language speaker in Spanish preferred
