Financial Books & Records (FB&R) Program Governance – Sr VP (Hybrid)

The Financial Books & Records (FB&R) Transformation Initiative has been established under the wider Citi Finance Transformation and comprises three pillars – Accounting, Ledgers and Close, and associated global platforms, processes, and governance. The program includes standardizing and reducing risk across current FB&R processes and establishing the next iteration of ledger strategy to adopt and implement global standard SaaS/Cloud based accounting and ledger platforms (the “strategic ledger”). The outcome will be a robust global process, governance, and controls to ensure consistent and materially accurate, complete, and timely ledger data and results.

The Controller Transformation team, in partnership with Global Functions Technology, selected Oracle Cloud as the technology platform, after a rigorous technical and functional assessment of Citi’s current ledger platforms against leading industry solutions. The new platform provides enhanced technical capability and supports our finance transformation strategy and realization of our Target Operating Model.

The program has established a Citi-wide governance and cross-functional team including Finance, Shared Services, Risk, Business and Technology partners. The scope of the program includes:

  • Centralizing and standardizing accounting into global accounting hubs and sub-ledgers
  • Implementing a standard sub ledger and general ledger for the firm
  • Replacing Citi’s current Operating and Reporting ledgers, including those embedded in bank-in-a-box platforms such as Flexcube
  • Automating and streamlining accounting and ledger processes and controls
  • Addressing source data quality issues impacting ledgers in partnership with enterprise wide data priorities
  • Aligning contractual and instrument level balances and positions with financial balances

The FB&R Program Office Senior Vice President will be part of the overall FB&R Initiative.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Orchestrate and drive the successful & timely completion of Strategic ledger program to achieve business outcomes, including the identification and resolution of risks and issues which impact program delivery
  • Carry out pro-active risk management, mitigation planning, and resolutions
  • Collate weekly status reports submitted by workstream leads and provide insightful, constructive feedback/challenge
  • Manage the strategic ledger governance meetings and lead Program Office workstream deliverables including Integrated Project Plan
  • Provide oversight to workstream intra- and inter-dependencies across stakeholder groups including System Integrators
  • Proactively manage workstream RAID logs, present views on status and undertake regular deep dives
  • Lead the KDD, Benefits, program plan, RAID, weekly reports, communications tracking
  • Prepare governance forum materials and presentations
  • Oversee the team calendars, stakeholder lists, sharepoint sites and ensure they are kept up to date.
  • Lead workstream communications, prepare and present FB&R updates to senior management forums
  • Support and co-ordinate Program Communications and events
  • Support the business case development and benefits tracking
  • Support the implementation of a hybrid agile methodology
  • Demonstrate extensive understanding of project and program management principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Build strong relationships with Program Office Leaders, Program Sponsors and Technology Leaders
  • Ensure consistency of deliverables and artifacts across all workstreams
  • Participate in resourcing, financial management and vendor management activities to ensure program is operating within budget
  • Ensure provisioning of necessary project tools (SharePoint, JIRA, SmartSheets, etc) by collaborating with internal IT teams who own respective tools

This is a high-profile role within Citi’s Finance transformation, with a global scope, ideal candidates would have an in-depth knowledge of sub-ledger and accounting process. Experience should be gained through extensive experience in a senior Controller, Finance Transformation or technology role at Citi or a similar institution. The role holder will be expected to provide both strategic and operational thought leadership over the FB&R transformation with the ability to lead and influence a wide number of stakeholders, virtual and matrix teams at SVP (Senior Vice President) level.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, team oriented, and a proactive problem solver. They will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to synthesize and communicate complex information in a clear, concise manner to various levels of stakeholders including both end users and senior/executive leadership. They must feel comfortable navigating complex and ever-changing environments with the ability to educate and persuade senior stakeholders. They will possess the ability to drive change throughout a large, global organization.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 10+ years of relevant PMO work experience with global corporations and financial services experience gained in Banking or in an associated consulting role
  • 5+ years of experience in implementing Technology Enabled Transformation or Digital Transformations in the Financial Services industry
  • Proven track record of significant organizational transformations and SaaS enabled ERP transformations (Oracle, SAP, Workday)
  • 10+ years’ experience in successfully managing complex projects and programs which include external suppliers through the full project lifecycle, from conception through rollout and ongoing support.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for reporting and PowerPoint for presentation development and Jira

Preferred:

  • Experience with SaaS enabled ERP transformations (Oracle, SAP, Workday)
  • Leadership Experience as a Process or Product Owner within a Chief Accounting Officer, Controllership and Finance Shared Services Organization is preferred.
  • Project Management certifications e.g., PMP (Project Management Professional), Agile Certifications or equivalent is a strong plus.

Education:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Management, Engineering, or related field is required
  • Project Management qualification or equivalent (e.g. Prince2 or PMP)
