The Mission of the Ohio Department of Commerce is promoting prosperity by protecting what matters most.
The Division of Financial Institutions ensures Ohioans’ money is safe by regulating financial institutions and service providers. This includes examining, supervising and regulating Ohio chartered banks and credit unions, and licensing and regulating non-depository mortgage brokers, mortgage loan originators, and other consumer lenders. The Division’s Office of Consumer Affairs provides assistance to consumers to help resolve complaints against these institutions and works to provide education to Ohioans regarding financial literacy and other consumer protection topics.

Commerce is comprised of seven operating divisions and two standalone programs that span a variety of industries including real estate, liquor, banking, securities, firefighting, construction and skilled trades, and medical marijuana. Through exceptional compliance practices and oversight, Commerce has a direct role in protecting Ohioans.

What You’ll Do:
- Assistant Division Counsel position with the Consumer Finance Unit within the Division of Financial Institutions.
- Primarily responsible for drafting administrative rules for the various licensing schemes administered by the Consumer Finance Unit and shepherding rule-packages through the JCARR process.
- Provide internal legal advice to DFI staff, and respond to general inquiries, regarding licensing requirements and all other legal aspects of the licensing schemes administered by the Consumer Finance Unit.
- Review and opine on legislative issues pertaining to the Consumer Finance Unit; assist in the development and refinement of internal policies and procedures.
- Assists other DFI legal staff on miscellaneous projects on an as-needed basis.
- Experience with public records requests and/or a records retention issues a plus.
