Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for maintaining a compliance inspection program for buildings owned by the General Services Department’s (GSD) Facilities Management Division (FMD). This position will maintain support for evacuation plan assessments, inspection of fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, Life Safety, and associated equipment in assigned facilities is safe, operational, and in compliance with local, state, federal and any applicable codes and standards regarding fire safety within the jurisdiction of GSD’s buildings in Santa Fe County. This position will provide emergency evacuation planning and training guidance for the occupant agencies in both leased space and state owned space.
How does it get done?
The incumbent in this position will:
– Coordinate and plan evacuation drills and reviews for building evacuation teams.
– Respond to fire alarms and assist local fire departments during emergencies.
– Maintain fire systems in Santa Fe GSD-owned buildings.
– Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with safety codes.
– Report inspection findings and coordinate corrective actions.
– Approve vendor work related to fire system maintenance.
– Ensure effective evacuation procedures and fire system maintenance within the jurisdiction.

public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has experience in the following:
– 4 years experience, and proficiency with fire compliance in a governmental, military or commercial setting.
– Familiar with current fire and building codes when it comes to fire protection both in existing buildings, new construction and re-model of existing buildings.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and one (1) year of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction or appliance repair.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Fast paced setting with varied management schedules. Working in both an interior and exterior setting with a variety of weather conditions. Lifting, pulling, bending and standing for prolonged periods, must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must interact well with customer agencies, FMD staff, and building professionals, and a variety of government inspectors.
