Firmware Engineer – RAS

Description

Ampere is seeking a Firmware Engineer-RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) to architect and develop software solutions for cloud datacenters. The role will require working across all aspects of Firmware for datacenter Systems on a Chip. You will ensure Ampere products deliver the highest quality in all facets of firmware design, working both with internal cross-functional teams, external partners and customers, and the open-source community.

What you’ll do:

  • Use Hardware & Software architectural specs to write software to handle HW errors across multiple IP blocks on Ampere’s next-gen SOCs.
  • Develop software at all levels of the stack, from Ampere’s proprietary low-level firmware, to mid-level firmware implementations of EDK2 and AptioV, and then finally up to kernel drivers and test applications.
  • Implement industry-standard RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) concepts such as Firmware First error reporting, OS First error reporting and error injection.
  • Work with Ampere Hardware and Software Architects to improve our RAS capabilities.
  • Interact with the open-source community to promote and enable the software ecosystem on Ampere platforms through ARM architectural forums and upstream contributions.

What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum 8 years SW experience, with at least 5 years of firmware development
  • Strong and demonstrable skill in C/C++
  • Experience with Assembly and direct hardware access.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and testing skills. Demonstrated ability using those skills to resolve issues spanning multiple subsystems
  • Proven ability to drive features from requirements to product
  • Intimate knowledge of software development process methodology to produce sustainable and maintainable code
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in RAS (Reliability, Availability and Serviceability) functionality
  • Experience with ARMv8 architecture and firmware
  • Comfortable with Secure/Non-Secure concepts
  • Knowledge of server hardware interfaces such as DDR4/5, PCIe, SPI, or I2C
  • Knowledge of industry standard initiatives such as ACPI, SMM, or UEFI
  • Experience with GIT, BugZilla, and JIRA

Education:

  • BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE degree & 8 years of related experience; or Master’s degree & 6 years.

Benefits and Pay

Ampere offers a competitive total rewards package that includes base pay, bonus, stock, and comprehensive benefits. The full base pay range for this role is between $129,000 and $215,000, except in the San Francisco Bay Area where the range is between $143,000 and $238,000.
