DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES:

This position is part of a regional team with FWC’s Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management and serves as the Northwest Region Freshwater Fisheries Project Leader in the Division of Freshwater Fisheries Management. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently plan, organize, coordinate, direct and participate in complex, multidisciplinary freshwater fisheries management, research, and monitoring projects designed to evaluate life history, population status, population dynamics, exploitation, regulations, and stock enhancement of freshwater sport and non-game fishes to.
  • Analyze data, write, and review technical reports, federal aid reports and tables, publish data in refereed journals or peer-reviewed proceedings, give technical presentations at meetings. Oversee project-level administration, including preparation of work plans, annual budgets, and administrative reports.
  • Supervise project biologists in field and laboratory studies.
  • Serve as an assistant to the Regional Fisheries Administrator/Biologist, as well as consultant, or technical advisor within government agencies utilizing specific research expertise.
  • Advise the public and governmental agencies on matters related to the biology, ecology, and management of Florida’s freshwater fishes. Participate in public outreach as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the biological sciences and three years of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory program;
  • or a master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the biological sciences and two years of professional experience as described above;
  • or a Doctorate from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in one of the biological sciences and one year of professional experience as described above

PREFERRED CRITERIA:

  • Applicants possessing a Master of Science degree in one of the biological sciences and professional experience in freshwater fisheries may be given preference

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Office hours are from 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. CST, Monday through Friday
  • This position requires travel up to 25% and work time outside of regular scheduled hours.
