We are currently seeking Tai Chi instructors to cover a variety of classes as needed at the Paul Derda Rec Center and Broomfield Community Center.
Hiring Range: $22.39 – $26.34/hour Salary Range: $22.39 – $30.29/hour
This position is responsible for providing instruction in the fitness area such as various levels of cardiovascular training for participants of varying levels of fitness, skill and ability. This position is also responsible for providing proper instruction in weight training and mat work that is appropriate for the various muscle groups of the body.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
General Duties:
- Develops class content appropriate to the course description and level.
- Provides appropriate warm-up and cool down.
- Instructs participants in proper exercise heart rates.
- Monitors participants and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and technique.
- Provides proper instruction for various muscle groups including mat work or dry-land work.
- Monitors proper clothing/shoes of participants.
- Provides safe class environment.
- Provides feedback to class participants.
- Maintains current and accurate attendance records.
- Interacts with class participants and demonstrate exercises or training activities that may include the following actions: aerobic dance exercises, jogging, dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, stretching, swimming, weight lifting, full body movement, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Training – Must possess and maintain on-going training in the Tai Chi practice. Must possess and maintain a minimum of an Adult CPR certification and First Aid Certification.
Experience – Knowledge of Professor Cheng Man-ch’ing’s Yang Short form required. Additional knowledge of weapons forms such as Jian (straight) sword and push hands is preferred but not necessary.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: – Copies of national certification and/or CEU’s (continuing education credits) must be provided with application.

Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is moderate. Work is generally scheduled in advance with classes scheduled Monday through Sunday and may include early morning hours, afternoon hours and evening hours. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Instructor must provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the participant during instruction which includes a full range of physical abilities including: performing and maintaining aerobic exercise, jogging, dancing, stepping, marching, hopping, skipping, jumping, bending, stretching, and lifting minimal weight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Physical demands are described as light (exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
