The Fixed Income Division (FID) is comprised of Interest Rate and Currency Products, Credit Products, Securitized Products, and Municipal Securities. Professionals in FID assess and actively manage risk, trade securities, and structure as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets.

Municipal Capital Markets is a newly formed group of experienced municipal market professionals focused on providing exceptional execution to the full complement of our clients. Within this multi-faceted group, this position will concentrate on the development of new products and the marketing thereof to both clients and internal stakeholders. The role will also focus on designing and implementing financial solutions that draw on the municipal department’s proven experience with public debt offerings, private placements and direct purchases as well as our deep relationships with traditional and non-traditional investors.

Qualified senior Analyst / Associate candidates will benefit from unique exposure to the municipal market through underwriting, lending and investing activities. These include the marketing and execution of structured lending products, securitizations, interest rate and credit derivatives, and structured notes. You will work with Public Finance investment bankers, internal risk functions, municipal issuers, investors, internal and external counsel, consultants, sales, trading, and other capital markets professionals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide the analytical and quantitative support necessary to develop and execute bespoke financing structures
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials for existing and new product offerings that appropriately reflect current marketing conditions
  • Work closely with public finance bankers and sales force to identify both broad client needs as well as individualized solutions
  • Develop and participate in presentations to municipal and not-for-profit borrowers, as well as domestic and international institutional investors
  • Work with internal and external legal counsel to ensure documentation accurately reflects business transaction terms and mitigates risk where appropriate

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in municipal public finance, municipal capital markets or another applicable structured finance role
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, DBC and a strong preference for candidates with programming skills
  • Developed understanding of the municipal market
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills – written and verbal
  • Curious, inquisitive, collaborative, attention to detail, analytical, self-starting, team-oriented
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and simultaneously manage multiple high priority project

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $200,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
